Yamaha Top Box dimensions

Anyone know the interior rectangular dimensions of the Yamaha top box? Looking for a waterproof way to cayy my laptop too/from work.

Seattle, rain is not an option.

I've got a Toshiba Satellite that went to Reno in the Yamaha top box, fit in fine. The $300 roaming charge from my service provider was a bit hard to swallow when I got home, freaking asswipes.

I just put a new one on my 06 this week, however I'm at work right now. I'll have to measure it when I get home and reply then. I'm pretty sure it will hold just about any laptop. I have a Dell Latitude D610 here for work and it will fit. I get off at noon today so I'll measure it and get back to you. Someone else might beat me to it though.

I haven't tried a 17" laptop but the rest of the Dell line (Inspiron and Latitude) has fit in mine just fine.

Note that you'll want it in some kind of bag, not just flat on the bottom with the power supply thrown in or the constant movement will rub spots pretty quick. (go ahead, ask how I know)

I've been using a padded laptop insert for a backpack.

dont need the topbox when a laptop will fit in the sidecase. i've got a dell precision m70 with a 15 inch screen that fits in the side bags. its tight,, but it fits.

Thanks for all the input. I was hoping to just drop my soft, padded briefcase into the box and roll. I have a Dell Precision M70 with 15" screen. No big hurry, just looking for the interior dimensions to decide if this brief case will work or if I need to come up with another solution to hold the laptop inside the top box.

I tried stuffing the soft brief case into the side bag, but no go. I suspect the laptop itself might fit snugly, but I'd rather have it padded and covered by some kind of carrying bag.

I used to carry my laptop in the side case. There was not much room for padding and eventually my hard drive failed. Can't say for sure that it was caused by riding in the side case, but that seems to be the likely cause. Now I carry the laptop laying flat in my Givi V46 and have not had any problems.

Drives park the heads beyond the data section when they're powered down. They're usually held in place with a magnet which is overridden with an electromagnet at power up. Laying a laptop on its bottom is better than upright, because larger bumps can actually unseat the heads from their parked position if subjected to Gs while upright.

I dont have the dim. but I traveled 7000 miles this summer with a Dell 17" laptop in factory topbox. It was a tight fit I had to work a little to get it were it was safe but it was no problem.

The smallest dimension is the very bottom of the box and measures 10"x17" free area. The width dimension gets bigger as you go vertical towards the top. The back and sides are pretty much straight up and down, but the front has a concave shape to it. The width increases to 12" at the top. The depth is quite large so don't think that would be an issue. Hope this helps, let me know if you need anything else.

Can't fit my Sony Z505 (3 pound, 12" laptop) in the side case in a snug carry bag, but my Fujitsu P2120 (10.7" 16:9 display) fits fine.

As long as you have fire insurance

on the FJR you should be good to go no matter what bag you put the Dell in. If it's in the top box your wife might burn her back a little, but she will help to keep the draft down and the fire smaller!
