First some truly heartfelt Thank You(s) to...
Geezer - For jinxing the weather by bragging about how great the New England weather was, just before our trip started.
Ionbeam - For the heads-up phone message about Mt Washington being closed the morning we planned to visit.
MartyA & Sally - For braving the rain to escort us to the NY border.
FJREd & Grace - For being such awesome hosts for VT and magnificent pics.
Spklbuk - For guiding me on the all-day recon tour for Lewisburg/EOM 2008. I have some great route info for this year!
Grumpy - For letting me steal his spare Mich PR2.
And ALL those who provided route suggestions, feedback and the valuable local information that made this such a wonderful experience.
Worth noting are a couple POIs not listed below. We spent one night in Niagara Falls. Having never seen the falls in person before, I can honestly say that it's a must-see sight. Disappointing was the way the area has become "Canadian Disney World" so close to the park itself. We stayed on the Canadian side and had a super-nice hotel room at the Courtyard Marriott, jacuzzi and all. Amazingly, somebody slipped-up and allowed me to re-enter the USA without a problem.
The Adirondacks were everything I had heard they would be... NOTHING BUT TREES!!! Lots of lakes, beautiful lakes, great place to spend a week fishing or hiking. But I was hoping for some mountainous motorcycle terrain and was very disappointed.
I purposely avoided taking any pictures of the all-day route recon ride Jim Meadows(Spklbuk) and I made on Day-9. I'm saving that info for the GPS file with loads of info for EOM-2008.
All you nay-sayers should be proud of me. I throttled down the entire trip and stopped for loads of pictures along each day's route. The objective was to sweep the northeast and have a safe return in 10 days with no performance awards, injuries or property damage. Mission accomplished thanks to so much help from my friends along the way.
Here's what the 10-day route track looked like.
Hwy-219 from Lewisburg WV to PA is always good.
Wind Generators popped up just as we passed from WV to Maryland. A superb and totally unexpected surprise.
Falling Water Estate by Frank Lloyd Wright in PA.
The Upper Falls (1 of 3) Letchworth State Park, the Grand Canyon of the East, in western NY.
Yours truly at the Adirondack Museum in NY.
The ferry across Lake Champlaign from near Lake Placid NY to Burlington VT.
Nothing compared to Grace's shots, but here was my view from the FJR descending Mt Washington.
The Mt Washington road on the way up!
Another WV surprise along the return leg.
