Just curious, why the R6 over an R1?

This is a serious question, I'm not questioning your manhood or riding ability.

Thats one sweet bitch that R6.

a couple reasons I'm opting for the R6:

1) I think it looks cooler

2) I've never rode at the track and I figure the R6 is a better starting point for me than the R1

3) I can get an R1 later if the R6 doesn't cut it, but something tells me it'll be just fine

I dig.

I've heard from some racing folks that unless you weigh a lot, the R6 is PLENTY of power and speed, and that a lot of folks have been losing the rear wheel coming out of turns on the R1 due to just slightly too much throttle. Thats a monster motor that few people can ride to the max.

I agree, I think the R6 looks better as well, but anyone who knows me knows that cosmetics ain't nuthin to me. <G>

Alot of people I talk to say the R6 may even be a tad quicker around a track that has a lot of turns and shorter straights. But, if the track has long straights watch out for the R1.

I would be surprised if equal riders wouldn't do better with the R1. With a weight difference of only 24 pounds, the weight of the rider probably has a lot more do do with cornering than the weight of the bikes.

I have heard that there are definitely riders than can get the most out of R1 and blow away the R6. That may be true, but for my purposes, the R6 will do just fine. I am only 175 lbs and I figure that 133 HP will move me just fine.

Also, while the 24 pounds doesn't mean much on the track, I bet I"ll notice the difference on my morning commute. I really want a bike that has ultimate flickability while still getting performance close or better than the FJR.

The R1, it tempts me. I'll probably end up with both! Sherri likes the look of the R6 so much I bet she'll start riding when I get it (May time frame)

I read a story recently that indicated all but the most skillfull will be faster on the six. Power curves can be daunting, the torque curve is smoother, longer, and not as steep as the 1. Considering all the work the factories have been doing to lighten the hit on the rear tire, the 6 should be just the ticket. Just get rid of that ugly muff first opportunity. A Vance and Hines drag pipe would look great........ :p

The way I understand it, the new muffler is one of those things that some people like. Therefore, I am not alone ;)

Since I'm the best rider, I better get the 1. Just kidding :D

OK.

I'm sure this stuff is somewhere around here. Indulge me.

What is the actual top speed of the R1 and R6, and actual gas mileage while WFO.

Many thanks,

Hope your not on the tall side, ckeck out the photo of Jason Disalvo, he makes the new 6 look small & he's only 5'2".
I know it's your track bike but if I remember you are pretty tall?

I rode a Ninja 600 for a while and felt like a big spider crawling around on a little bug. I found I was trying to shrink myself when I rode that bike.

Good choice O'vale. I have been riding an R1 since 1998 and have done four track days on it and the power still intimidates. Haven riden on the track, I would probably be quicker on an R6. It takes a lot of track experience to exploit the advanatages of the R1's power.

Totally agree with that statement. My CBR954 still scares the hell out of me when I try and spank her in the ass a bit. Yeah, she's a bigger badder mama-jamma than I am and she has no problem reminding me and putting me in my place.

The biggest reason I got a liter bike instead of a 600 was because of the killer deal I got on my bike. If it wasn't for that, I would probably have an R6 in my garage instead of my 954. Well that or a TLR1000. I really liked those bikes even with their funky ass rear suspension. Then again, I really like the Hayabusa too.

I have to qualify my statement above. I think the R1 is a better streetbike due to mid range power and torque. If I were getting a trackbike, it would be the R6.
