Got a few problems with my Starcom. First off I have it set up running through my Blue Seas Fuse block for power. Then all my cords come out at the front of my Saddle for me and into my tank bag. Passenger headset connection comes out of side of passenger seat so no wires running up along gas tank to front of the bike and I am still getting some feedback from the motor. Not alot but you can still hear it. Any suggestions?

Next problem. I purposely bought the setup for using my Etymotics ER6i's only, no inner helmet speakers, headphones only. I bought 2 other setups for helmets that have both helmet speakers and option for headphones. Here's the problem. Even with my volume turned all the way down when a passenger talks to me it seems like they are yelling at me? What's the fix fo this?

Last problem, I think I have a few bad cords. One of the extension cords for the helmet set has a short in it. Reason I think this is because like I said I bought 3 helmet setups and the other two have no problems as far as the extention part goes. If I manipulate the cord I can make my ipod music go on and off. Next cord problem is my Kid's helmet. Whenever I move the main cord comming out of his helmet I get a buzzing noise that is very obnoxious but once again will go away with cord manipulation. So would you say I have a couple of bad cords?

Other than the few quirks that I have I really like the system.

It sound' like you have the cable's figgered out The volume quest. may be a combo of sensitivity adjustments and sidetone settings? Call Jeff he will get you set up

I installed my Starcom Advance a few weeks ago. I wanted to use ear plug style isolation ear phones for myself and helmet speakers/ mic for the wife. I ran into the same problem, my wife was blasting me out no matter what settings I tried. I finally gave in and installed helmet speaker /mic in my own helmet. problem resolved.

Wow, I really hate to hear this because I like to wear earplugs cause I have the HJC Modular Helmet that I think is noisy. I will try and call Jeff at Bike Effects and see what he can do for me... Thanks for the replies...

I still wear ear plugs (the foam type) and can still hear my Ipod and wife.

I use a headphone-only setup in my helmet with ear-buds. I too had a problem with a short in the lead coming out of the cable for the ear-buds. At first I thought the short was in the connector itself. It started acting up during the Utah 1088 rally. I only had a couple of days before I was to head back out on another multi-day ride so I didn't have time to get a replacement, and I certainly wouldn't have had time to get it all mounted up again in my helmet. So I opened up the connector and thought I found the issue, re-soldering the connections in the connector. Three extremely small wires and a VERY small capacitor used to bring the signal level down from helmet speakers to ear-bud level.

But, the real short was in the lead coming out of the helmet that is used for plugging in the ear-buds. I fiddled around with the wire until I found where the problem was, cut it off there, and re-soldered it to the connector, adding in a little strain-relief. It seems to be working fine now.

I bought the earphone set as well. Honestly, never again. For me the female stereo connector would NOT stay plugged in to the earphones, and would constantly fall out. I eventually soldiered a different connector onto it, and went with helmet speakers after all. This now has me worried because it sounds like the helmet you HAVE is the one I WANT. (Symax II, I am guessing)
