If there's not going to be a set itinerary, I'd like to suggest a side trip to Glacier Point, time permitting. The road up that way is pretty fun and the views from up there are some of the best the park has to offer. Oh, and a refreshment stop at the Ahwahnee Hotel is always nice as well. Of course, valley traffic should be pretty heavy on Saturday so going in that way and finding parking may be a bit of a hassle.

Huh? You mean we're gonna ride, too?! ****. Here I am thinking we're gonna be boozin' the whole time... :drinks:

Besides, I'm gonna follow Mr. H. and not worry about it. However, Sunday may divert me to Reno for a little recon mission...

What?! And miss the chance to return over Sonora pass? That will make for a looong day. You must have Monday off, as I do but I'm only half of the people on my bike. :(

Glacier Point Saturday a.m. followed by brunch at the Awahnee :D

That could work.

Based on the last three Yosemite rides.... We don't get to Lee Vining / Whoa Nellie deli until about 2 pmish ( That's including a stop at the valley overlook, a quick stop and go in the valley at the waterfall views, and our " 1/2 hour " stop at the hotel which drags on to be over an hour, and a break on top of Tioga at Lake Tenaya :D If we throw in Inspiration Point that's another 2 hours easily, meaning Lee Vining at 4pmish. Lunch is usually over an hour with this many riders, which means heading for the hotel at 5-30 ish. Check in and dump gear???? about 6pmish..... does not allow time for the two hour blast out to Benton.

HMMM.... sounds like we may have to split this group up into riders and sightseers  That's cool... but the ride out to Benton is a rider's wet dream, a rollercoaster of a road!! B)

I think I'm up for teh glacier point ride toecutter. I'm 2up and can go without the hooligan stuff this time (I mean rider stuff). Does that preclude anything other than the Benton ride?

Andrew

I don't think there will be much hard riding through the park, what with traffic, double yellow lines and the 35 mph speed limit. On Saturday there should be a fairly heavy amount of traffic. I've seen Glacier Point before (this year) and was just making a suggestion, since it's my first year of the group ride. If there's enough interest, I'd be willing to ride with a split group back up there. We could forego the hotel in the valley and still make it to Lee Vining at a decent hour. I'm not sure we're up for a blast either, but I'm a team player as well. Whatever the group(s) want(s) to do is fine with me. Caution: I'm not exactly a sightseer. I leave that part up to Brenda   I'm usually too busy looking for road hazards.

So, anybody else up for a side trip? Five or six bikes would make it worthwhile. Lunch might be a little quicker in two smaller groups as well. Food for thought, and to help pass the time until Saturday.

I'm still thinking. (Yes, it hurts my widdle head!) The last time I went through the park I was in a big hurry, so I just rode through the valley floor (Okay, I stopped for some pictures.), so it might be nice to make the run up to Glacier Point. There'll be time to discuss Friday night or Saturday over breakfast, providing Toecutter and Eve arrive in time.

If the second group will forego the stop in Lee Vining, we might still meet the other group at the motel....or ride out to Benton on the way

Lotsa ways to get it done.

We'll be there for breakfast Saturday but we'll be staying home Friday night to do our part in protesting gas price gouging. You folks get the logistics figured out over all those beers and then you can inform us of "The Plan" when we show up. If we skip the hotel and grab a late lunch in Lee Vining we would probably also be in good shape for arrival in Mammoth Lakes, especially if we 'hurry' through the park. :D So, is dinner scheduled after the Benton ride? Any idea where yet?

Fill up today, then... ;)

I had not heard about a Friday Price Gouging protest. Do tell
It's just a personal thing. Not buying any more than I need. A one-day protest is ludicrous if you ask me. An extra 120 mile trip for this weekend is a budget cut. Probably the ride to Benton as well. My salary hasn't quite kept pace with the oil company's profits, so I'm trying to use less whenever possible. I guess it isn't very personal anymore. Just trying to do my part and still have a life in the meantime.

I can dig it. I do like the idea of not buying gas on Sundays...it really can make a difference if you plan ahead and buy on Sat and Mondays...I don't know why, but the economists say so. I figure they know better than I do. I haven't bought gas on a Sunday since Katrina and I plan on keeping that up...we are certainly driving less too. I switched to 100% working from home...unless I have a client meeting and those are rare for my type of business.

Lucky me I guess.
