Where do you all mount your ZUMO? Mine is on order, so i haven't been able to play with it yet, but I bet someone out there has something cool figured out. What's the chances the suction cup would attach to the speedo glass?

Click on upper right search word and copy/past these lines, one at a time, including the important quote marks: "mount your Zumo" Search again using "zumo mount" That should get you started with specific threads. (Uncheck the Search this forum only? box if it is checked.

Do even think of the suction cup I use it in my truck and it fails all the time I ust the steering stem mount works great.

'zactly. Steering stem mount. The suction cup mount that I use in my FJ Cruiser falls once in awhile, but only if it is out in the Texas sun for too long. But really, would you want a $600+ GPS attached to a moving vehicle with a suction cup?

I'm quite pleased with the Techmount I purchased recently. Very sturdy and convenient. I suspect the suction cup will hold the glass well enough to yank it out of your speedometer when you hit a good bump! On the plus side, the speedometer is about 5 mph too optimistic, so it won't be a huge loss. :D

For those who have never seen the Techmount steering stem mount

BTW: this is the shorter 2.5" stem, product #10998M

i just scored a zumo and received it yesterday. it comes with two different mounting options, one for your clutch/brake reservoir clamp, or a u-bolt. i didn't even try the u-bolt, i used the clutch mount. i also have a techmount stem mount for my old gps, but i'll probably stick with this one supplied by garmin. gotta love that they supply two different types of m/c mounts with the unit, AND a car mount.

shameless spam content warning:

if this supplied clutch mount makes me happy, keep an eye out on the for sale area for the techmount stem mount. ( :

I used the clutch/brake res mount supplied by Garmin, and I hate it. It puts the GPS unit right up in my face, and the angle is such that the screen is hard to read with my face shield down. I'm going to buy the steering stem mount, but I have a question for those who have installed it: What is the torque spec for the stem nut? Anyone?

I called Techmount and asked if they would drill and tap one of their stem nuts so I could add a RAM ball. They were happy to do it -- drilled it, tapped, mailed it the same day. It's cheaper than the full Techmount, puts the zumo in a great place, and I just really like the flexibility of the RAM system. Let's me hook up whatever I want when I need it.

The RAM arm on the zumo in this shot uses a locking knob. I don't worry about it when I head into restaurants.

Love the Tourtech mount. I siliconed my Sirius radio to the bottom of the Garmin mount & has worked flawless . . . .

That is correct. It was a nice excuse to get a new torque wrench. ;) Found the cheapest at amazon.com, by the way.

And before it gets asked: It's a 36mm socket for both the OEM stem nut and the Techmount stem nut.

The exception -- the OEM stem nut on the '03 is 32mm. The 36mm Techmount stem nut will still go on the '03 -- the inner diameter and threads are the same for all models. It was only the external diameter of the nut that was different for the '03.

Really? I'm 6'3" and I find it in exactly the right place. Less movement away from the grip when trying to change something. There is also a fair amount of flexibility in positioning, or at least I think so. I guess it goes without saying that I'm happy with the clutch reservoir mount.

I have my GXM-30 (the XM radio add-on for the Zumo) mounted on the clutch reservoir, and my V-1 on the brake reservoir, so I chose the steering stem mount for my Zumo.

Really. ;) Thank God we're all different, otherwise the world would be a pretty boring place.

There's a lot of preference that goes into farkling your bike. Aesthetics plays a big role for me. The FJR is such a beautiful machine, I'd like to keep things clean and unobtrusive. Something like that dash mount would not suit me well at all, as it would kinda "take away the sexy". B) I'm not much for farkles, really. What one person finds useful or necessary, I might consider clutter.

The great thing is, we're all free to do with our bikes as we please! What a country! [/yakovsmirnoff]
