Instead of riding today, I decided to install my new little Whister radar detector & 12 volt power adapter for my chatterbox unit in my new ZX14.

After I removed the necessary side panels, I ran the power leads under the right side panels & down to the area below the battery compartment. I tucked a little excess leads under the windscreen. I already had the dealer install a battery charger pigtail. To make this whole install convenient for two purposes:

1. charging the battery.

2. supplying power to the detector & chatterbox unit.

I brought the leads together & soldered them onto a matching pigtail so it just plugs right in to the battery pigtail. If I need to charge the battery, I unplug the "electronics" pigtail, cap it off, then plug in the charger. You can see the Chatterbox power pigtail hanging down directly underneath the tach.

Note: The power is not through the key switch so I have to remember to turn off the detector.

I'm working on that! I just ordered a cloaking kit from K-Tel. They also say it helps one obtain a longer man part! B) B) :p

As I stated in another thread, the look of the ZXer was so cool... the silver with chrome lettering just sparkles. :dribble:

As of this date, I've installed a couple different windshields (a carbon fibre chrome one & the one in the picture is the Kawasaki touring windshield), the rear fender eliminator with LED light, heli-bar risers, a chrome tankslapper, & a radiator guard.

On order are my front headlight & brakelight modulators, race railz, & some minor bling (chrome chain guard & heel guards).

Considering some exhaust slip-ons... maybe Scorpion. I don't like the look of the slip-ons using a clamp. I prefer to have them bolt on just like the stock ones.

Anyway, it's incredibly smooth to ride. I'm still pinching myself in case it's all a dream!

Hey Stephen,

Would you happen to have pictures of how you mounted your radar detector and perhaps the mounts used?

I have a V1 that I am wanting to mount on my ZX-14, however, I am not sure of best way of doing it.

Thanks!

Mark

Mark, I just used the little mount that came with the detector. It has 2 little rubber cups that attach to the windshield, and I let it hang against the dash. I have a tiny piece of velco to cushion the detector so it doesn't bang around on bumps.

It amazes me how the obvious can somehow be overlooked. I just naturally thought that with the curve of the windshield that the suction cups would not work but didnt really try it to confirm that. I will give that a try tonight.

On a side note, I am really loving the ZX-14. It is really a fantastic motorcycle - great brakes, exremely smooth, transmission is like butter, great clutch, comfortable, great power, etc. I have had it a week and now have 500mi on it. Did a 200mi day on Saturday. Plan to change the oil and whatnot this weekend.

I wet the cups just a little bit. They really do stick quite good. It hasn't fallen off yet. It also depends on the shield. I have 5 different shields and they all work... just the location is a little different.
