Gen1 Frankentank takes shape

I have the testing done and the body solder done and sanded,so I decided to put the plugs in the fuel pump hole and started filling it up. When I got to the top of the holes(new vent holes) ,I right at 9 gallons +/- a pint or 2. tommorrow I will scrub down with baking soda to nuetrilize the solder flux and tallow from the wood shaping paddles,then lay a coat of evercoat filler on the outside and rough in the lines ,and then coat the inside and it will be ready to send down the road. Here are the latest.

+1... You may have to change jobs soon when everyone takes a look at this. I see the line getting longer for tank alterations.

For point of reference, here is the stock tank

no worries about the knees, perfect fit.

First fill up... there was approximately 2 gallons in from old tank

That tank looks OEM! ~9 gallons (~2 + 6.9) that's awsome. Any noticable difference at low speeds or corning with half a tank?

I also have a frankentank for a Gen II. It is ~9.6 gallons. For me it is no noticeable difference.

On the way to NAFO Brian said he could feel it a bit, a little more push effort when the tank was full.

We filled up after Whistler and he noted that he had to push a bit harder in the twisty's when we turned it up a bit.

If someone were to fabricate a replacement tank like this, I have a feeling they would sell a (iron) butt load of them!! Nice work.

It would be cool if they could be mass produced. Dirttracker has a ton of labor involved.

BTW, since Wingshot had the tank and new plastics painted it looks beautiful. And I actually saw him washing it.

Great looking GenI with FrankentankII. I was wondering the same thing regarding washing...there's a first for everything!! :lol:

As cool as it is, I wouldn't want one. I really like my big Yamaha tank bag. I wouldn't be able to put it on this expanded tank - it would be too high. As much as I would like a tank like this, I couldn't live without a big tankbag where I can easily get at a bunch of stuff.
