ADMIN NOTE: Postings beyond this initial may be consolidated into the first regularly and be deleted by the Admins upon the author's request. It is intended as a compliation of greatest hits of subjects often talked about, often forgotten, and/or reasked by newbies. It's hoped that NEPRT postings might be reduced by this consolidated posting of greatest hits.

This thread will eventually become a sticky, as a summary of numerous threads on each subject. I decided to start with the easiest one first, top speed, then I will work on tires. If you have something to add post away, your posts will be incorporated into this one.

Top Speed

160mph on GPS. With the bags fully loaded and the trunk mounted around 155mph. Two-up 145mph.

See magazine comparison, Bad Admin, Naked Bad Admin = 160, two-up.

For more links, go to search advanced options. Search for "top speed" in the NEPRT section.

Tire Size

Running a 190 rear has been discussed, nobody seems to have posted doing it. Forum consensus: Run the recommended tire sizes. For more discussion:

Tire Reviews

Until someone posts cheaper tire prices I am going to quote SW Moto prices. They charge $14 shipping for a single tire, $0 for two or more. If you find a cheaper price (including shipping) from somewhere with a good reputation that ships as fast as SW Moto let us know!

I've bought my sport bike tires from here because much cheaper. Checked Pilot Road 2 pricing for FJR and found that they're much cheaper too with a good reputation. Shipping to my door within 2 days typically.

Rear: $149.95

Front: $122.95

Other brands seem to be cheaper too, but this is what I run on my FJR.

Bad link...

Haha...Oh shit. Just saw that. I don't know why this thread keeps showing up as unread. I thought Sully made a new post.

I don't know why this thread keeps showing up as unread.
You and others replying certainly doesn't reduce that from happening...... ;)

If somebody wants to take over the duties of our seemingly absent forum member, which I wholly recommend and endorse in this most-useful thread idea, simply copy and paste the material over to a new thread, update what needs to be cleaned, and then send me a PM. I can then retire this thread and pin the new one!

Fame, fortune, mess-free oil changes, swooning newbies, and/or propositions from attractive groupies are bound to follow for your selfless forum service.

Thanks.

I must be getting the 'A' disease, I thought there was a Salma Hayek versus Penelope Cruz versus Sofia Vergara thread under NEPRT! JSNS, Hubba!

Apparently not. But they were the cheapest

All the SW Moto links on this page are dead. Is SW Moto still in business? Their facebook page has not been updated since 2012. Where is the best place to purchase tires for my 2015 FJR1300A?

It kind of depends on what you're looking for, and when. Good ones to check are Jake Wilson, Chaparral Racing, Motorcycle Superstore, and a couple others. You get the idea.

Check prices and shipping. Jake Wilson has shipped my last two sets of tires. Before that, it was Chaparral. I actually got a set of tires from CycleGear (in store) during a sale once.

Gotta look around!

1) Google search for SW Moto yields lots of results for SW Motech and pretty much nothing for SW Moto. Note that links were published in 2007. (Why are you looking for them, anyway? See item #2.)

2) The best place to buy your tires will be the one that sells the make/model you want for the least amount of money -- and don't forget to include shipping in the cost comparison. Michelin, Bridgestone, Pirelli, Dunlop, Metzeler, Avon, and PLEASE don't ask which are the best. My current preference is the Metzeler Roadtec 01 for mileage and wet/dry handling. It does cup, so -- at 11,000 miles -- hard-leaning turns provide a free forearm massage.

As both veteran members above have said ... use your Google skills and check a few places.
