Which ever moron designed this piece of crap kickstand should have one shoved up where the sun don't shine. I stopped for gas this afternoon, put the stand down and started to lean the bike over, somehow the stand flipped back up and over she went. Scratched the **** out of my engine sidecase and mirror. Small place on the left saddlebag and left bar end. I've been a little leary of that kickstand since day one. It didn't seem to go forward far enough. Well i just took my grinder to it and now it works much better. Only 1300 miles and got my first damage :angry2: . The 5 year old who was in the next car over probably knows a few new cuss words now.

That five year old is now terminally and mentally wrecked. Poor kid. Probably grow up into someone like rad or twn. I feel sorry for the kid. As for you not putting the kickstand down correctly....dang, dude. Sucks to be you.

I've done the same thing in my driveway. I've done it in parking lots with other bikes. What pisses me off the most is that it's never been because of a defective kickstand design  DOH!

Seriously, I feel your pain. It may humor you to know that I've done it TWICE :dribble:

Sorry to hear about the drop!

I am leary of the side stand everytime i get off... Heres my technique:

1. In 1st gear

2. Stand down

3. push forward on bike putting tension on the rear wheel

4. get off slowly.

I also try to park where thebike has a better lean angle...

+1 'Cept I use my toes as feelers, set the bike over, scream like hell, pull my toes out form under and then limp for a week.

I agree, to put such a weak, frail, cheap piece of s--t on their top on the line bike sure doesn’t speak well for Yamaha. I think my 10-speed Schwinn Varsity's stand I had back in High school was more rigid....My 83 Honda V-65 had a stand that would hold the bike if you wanted to sleep on it.

The keys were surprisingly cheaply made too.....I have better made keys for my luggage...but It's always something. What's surprising is All the BMW salesman had to do was to compare keys and kickstands and I'd probably have a $23 BEEMER in the garage right now instead of the FJR..

Hm...I think some cheese is in order here. Extra cheese, more like.

We can always count on temp for bluntness. +1. Otherwise, just don't drop the scoot, dude.

Oh ,this IS because of a defective design. The end of the sidestand is between the footpeg and the pad for the centerstand. Barely enough room to get your heel in there to push it down. And the spring doesn't have enough tension to hold it all the way extended. Needs a better angle on it. It's just not enough to pull the stand all the way out and hold it. Anyway i reckon i'll be a lot more carefull how i park in the future. Bob

Hasn't this topic been flogged to death? Surely it's a pointless neverending thread by now, with those saying "Pay attention when you put her on the stand, numb nuts" on one side and "What a terminally ****** up design" on the other.

I'm just sayin'.

I was talkin' about the kids, dude. Not the design....nor the nincompoopery involved with putting the stand down. Poor kid is damaged forever after hearing him drop his scoot.

:angry2: Your are not the first! Left mirror, windshield and front fairing is cracked. Mine fell over after i walked off, came back to find it leaning into a garage door looking like a wounded animal.
