I have two pair of boots. One is for sport riding/fair weather romping--the Sidi vertigo corsa air. they're great except not too comfortable off the bike. these are keepers.

for everyday, long distance and foul weather riding I use the sidi on road sympatec. I'm not happy with the level of crash protection. And not reflectors of any kind.

suggestions? price secondary.
Ditto on the Cruiserworks, waterproof, extremely comfortable, and walk in them, CAN BE RESOLED!!! Expensive, but IMHO worth it, have those really cool sport rider boots, $200-400, but have to be thrown away when heels are worn out.
Well, I use to ride with a pair of steel-toe work boots that I got from Wal-Mart for $40 a pair, but that all changed after Hurricane Katrina! My partner left my pair of $400 black elephant boots behind in Metairie in the bottom of his hall closet. His condo filled with 18" of water and ruined them :angry2: !

Any how, since I travel to New Orleans a lot for business, I needed a pair of boots that I could ride safely with and use as a dress boot. I tried many on and my favorite (the ones I purchased) are the Crusierworks SideZip

https://www.cruiserworks.com/sidezip.cfm

Excellent pair of boots all the way around.

Merry Christmas!

Well, about ten days ago I splurged and ordered what I thought to be the best boots I could find -- Daytona M-star GTX. Very pricey indeed, but these are hands down the best boots I have ever seen. They are extremely comfortable and offer protection far superior to my Sidi On Road Sympatex (shin, ankle support, rear reflector). And they don't feel like moto boots. They are COMFORTABLE!!

If you want the ultimate. Try these pups.

Mogan,

If you are happy with the fit and feel of your Sidi Corsa, you might want to try the Sidi Strada Evo Te-Por. I've used these boots for all weather riding and find them very comfortable in cold weather or warm. They also offer good protection from the elements, crash protection and have some reflective material as well.

I think I am probably the only person in North America that owns a pair of Held boots like this:

They are excellent boots but impossible to find. I ended up calling the North American distributor for Held who ordered me a pair and then sent them over to me. After that he emailed me a couple of times to find out what I thought of them and whether I thought they should start carrying them here. For the price, the Oxtar Matrix are great and I really like them alot but for overall comfort, the Held has them beat.

Which model of Helds are those boots and is that distributor of which you speak planning on carrying them? Also- how many greenbacks?

Skooter,

They are the Held Highlanders and if I recall correctly they were about $250.00. At the time, June I think, they were planning on bringing them in but checking their website they don't show boots of any kind.

LINK This brings you to the Euro site that shows some of the other styles.

Thanks for the info and link. $250 ain't too unreasonable. They look like high quality boots. I also like the look of the "Tonale" model:

Thanks for the info! The corsa's are a totally different animal than my everyday boots. They're designed for track use and I only where them when being "bad." The Daytonas will replace my On Road Sypatex. The Daytonas are WAY MORE comfortable than any boot I've tried.

I'll attempt to do a comparison: Sidi OnRoad Sympatex .vs. Oxtar Matrix 2 **** Tex.

Sidi's are about 5 years old or more -- in perfect shape and still keep me dry.

A note: I'm US size 9 shoe.

Sidi: 43 (Sidi says 43 = 9.5, 42= 8.5) Sidi fits me like a glove

Oxtar 42 (Oxtar says 43 = 10, 42 = 9.) Oxtar is a little loose in the arch area.

So -- with the same Euro size -- 43 Sidi's fit, 43 Oxtars are too big.

42 Sidi's too small, 42 Oxtars fit.

Left: Sidi Champion Air ($160) great for hot rides, very vented. Kind of expensive for what you get.

Middle: Oxtar Matrix 2 **** Tex ($169.99)

Comfortable for all day walking wear, and has CE armor, can't vouch for the boots water proofness yet, but it does have a ****-Tex liner -- so should be perfect.

Easy on-off half zipper, half velcro. The zipper is a liability for me -- it will break one day.

The Velcro closure at the top works fine.

It's a little shorter boot than the Sidi, and prefer it when I also have to walk-around alot.

Right: Sidi On Road Sympatex ($260)

Comfortable for all day walking wear (slightly less comfy walking than the Oxtar)

Rode in a 9 hour downpour when the boots were several years old, and well worn -- no leaks.

Takes longer to put on, but can secure the top of the boot to your desire with the velcro tabs.

It's a little taller, but fits better over and under pants due to the adjustability in the top of the boot.

Bottom Line:

All day riding -- Sidi Sympatex. also the most durable/reliable

Riding then walking -- Oxtar

When it's Hot -- Sidi CA.

If I can only have one pair, I'd get the Oxtar.

If I can have 2 pair, Sidi On Road Sympatex and Champion Air.

I have a pair of Sidi race boots, but found them hard to walk around

when I got off the bike. Last year I got a pair of Tour Master Response

boots from New Enough Leathers and I like them a lot. I did a Iron-Butt

Ride last June in them. It rained 16hrs straight and my feet stayed dry.

I also like you can tie them up for better ankle support. They have armor

also, and a strap to stop the boot laces from getting into your brake/shifter.

At under $100, I think they are a great value. Heres the clicky....

Funny. I started reading this from the beginning and all I could think was "They're your feet - don't screw around. Go with Frey Daytonas."

Glad you made the right choice.

Enjoy!

I agree. I have been looking into which boot for about a month now and I am going to go with the Daytona Roadstar and the Ladystar for my wife. They are a ton of money but from what I have heard from others who own them they are an investment.

BMW Protouring are $325 but blow away my Sidi's and Tourmasters. I wish they made in a slightly bigger size.

Funny the Frey-Daytona look exactly like the BMW PtoTouring Boot the I like. Great call 2006 FJR. Where did you get yours?

Nice write-up Rickster. I've got the Oxtar Matrix II and I'm a size 10 and got the size 43. Little wide and I could use about 1/8 inch more on the left boot BUT, I like the boots. Comfortable to ride and to walk. I've ridden in the rain for about 2.5 hours without any leaking. Heck, on a couple of occasions I've put them on to go and get some firewood or something else in the rain! You're right that the zipper is a weak link, but it's also a point on the good side for convenience. I wore a pair of old flight boots until they rotted and it sure is nice not dealing with shoe laces! I'm pretty sure that if a zipper broke the velcro would hold everything shut just fine. If they just didn't look like Star Trek boots! All around I think they're a great boot for the money and I'd be happy to buy them again.

The best boots I've ever worn are Cruiser Boots.https://www.cruiserworks.com

Waterproof, wear like iron and were comfortable on the bike and off the first day I put them on. I'd buy them again. No questions asked.
I also have Cruiserworks and did a lot of research before purchasing them. This was the only boot that remained dry in the sustained submerged testing that as I recall included being submerged in a bathtub with a brick inside to weight them down for a 24 or 48 hour period. You can probably find this article. It was in one of the Cruiser type mags and also had several other boots rated as well.
