The rules are in place and have been thoroughly explained. They're not new. They're not even all that restrictive. Deal with it. Can't handle the load? Go to EZ board and see how long it takes before you get banned over there.
I think the next forum guideline should address people bitching about the forum guidelines.
Sounds awful political to me.

Sheeesh.............Ignacio, You need to lighten up. It's a forum not a collage exam. It’s a place to visit, have fun and pass on information about common interest. If the "rules" are so ridged that this can no longer happen then "what is the point". :drinks:
I don't know much about rules being ridged......unless they're Ruffles.

It is absolutely a place to visit, have fun.....like .....ummmmmm.....your favorite corner tavern, where you can have a beer with your virtual buds, and discuss motorcycles in general, and the FJR in particular. Just leave politics at the door.

...Taking a break from all your worries sure would help a lot.......where everybody knows your name.....

Anybody wants to start a new forum on politics....or whatever, feel free to PM me and I'll tell you where to get the software and ISP. You can be an administrator of your very own board and talk about whatever you want. You can even come over here and post a thread inviting people to go to that board.
Final option....if you're not sure what politics are...or the definition is not clear to you.....stick to FJRs and avoid Completely Off-Topic altogether.

The rules on this board are created by guys that have run other forums too. Their experience has shown them that certain types of topics can turn the fun place to hang around into a brawl. They love this forum and community like many of us do and they want to protect it from this kind of evolution. The rules are there to help us and frankly, I didn't believe in them at first. Then I got into an argument about waving to other riders and realized that if we can argue about that, it's best to leave more passionate topics off the table, especially when they are topics that tend to incite argument.

Of course, I won that waving argument by admitting I'm a fairy princess

I have stepped over the political line a few times and the education as to "what is a political topic" was certainly something I hadn't considered before. I figured if I wasn't bashing one party or another I was in good shape. Not so. I stated an opinion about how a governmental organization is run by appointed government employees. It WAS a political statement and could have drummed up all sorts of argument. Now that I figured out what a political topic is, I find it easier to stay away from them. Believe me, there are plenty of things to talk about other than that stuff, and there are forums that allow it. I have gone to those from time to time, but I find that even with it's topic limitations, I like the crowd here an awful lot. :)

what is and what is not considered a political statement is too subjective to be enforced equally. What is patently obvious to one as being political, may not register at all to another as being such.........

Believe me I have had this discussion w/admin via pm on previous occasions.

Bigger and better minds have to figger this one out............after all I live in MS so I have an excuse. <_<

If you're worrying about where the boundaries are for politics or obessing about subjectivity or equal enforcement.....chances are you're way off FJR and motorcycle specific discussion to begin with.....like this thread.

Same answer I'm sure I've given via PM.....and posted earlier:

If you're not sure what politics are...or the definition is not clear to you.....stick to FJRs and avoid Completely Off-Topic altogether.

Here here!!!! :yahoo:

Now back to a project I'm working on, but keep getting interupted. I've been working on modifying the Member Map to have color-matched icons with the year FJR we own. Was hoping for yesterday, but spent too much time dealing with political threads to finish it. Headed back now to sort out some '05 owners......

AGREE 100 %.

I think lately there's too much closing of threads because of a few political words. It seems the blue room is turning brown, just the reason the board was created was to stop censoring, now it's ever increasing because of certain " banned " words.

It's not even party bashing that gets the door closed, just words like goverment and political is enough to draw the ire of the Iggymeister and others.

Hell, I'm not even that political because agrguing on the net is worthless, but to close a decent ( opinionated maybe ) discussion on DUI, and earlier to close the discussion on what I thought was about one of the best discussions on the board, the Hummer / Toyota thread, was draconian IMHO.

But yet on another thread someone ( who shall remain nameless, but one of the chosen /connected few IMHO ), pot shotted Bush ( not that I care so much ) and there was no reprecussion at all. So where's the continuity ?

So I see and know the rules , but the future is still going to be time consuming for admins, 'cause the political stuff will be never ending and they'll have a steady job being the political overseers and having to censor posts, and I think you'll be chasing threads and wasting time locking them down.

I think ( yeah I know ya don't care .. so what ) that Joo's board damn near runs on auto pilot and there is none of the concerns over political bashing on the euro board.

Nut, may I suggest:

This was a suggestion I sent to Ignacio.

Ignacio, Just a thought. Why not have a section such as "Completely Off-topic Discussions" that is open for any topic. A place to go and whine, *****, talk politics or anything else one wants to rant about. There seems to be enough interest in some of these topics, that having a place to go to discuss them, with your friends, would be fun. It is much more fun to discuss different topic with the friends that you make here than to just go to a different forum and talk to those you don't even know or have anything else in common with. I think if there was a section that was set up for just that kind of use it would keep these topics off section where we DON'T want to hear it. I don't think that we need to add another topic section, there is already one that can be used "Completely Off-topic Discussions". It just needs to be opened up a little.

Having an area like this seems to have more value in the winter when more of us are stuck at home and not able to ride. With more time on our hands I think it would be fun to have an area where we can talk about anything.

What do you think? Worth a thought at least?
And this was his reply

Been and discussed extensively before.....multiple times. See this post for the latest affirmation of us not doing this.
You're also bugging one admin of four. Even if you convinced me you're going to need to convince the others. And we've talked about it before. We've seen MANY boards that have the redlight district and the approach doesn't work. It inevitably spills over into other areas and degrades the board overall.

Either accept, move on, and talk about the FJR....or go to Invision and download your own forum software and make whatever forum you want.
What a "****-Head"

EDIT out PM
What a "****-Head"
wow...seemed like a level headed response. He explained his position, he explained his authority and he explained that this topic has a long history. Then he provided a potential solution to your problem and you call him this? I think you're looking for a fight instead of seeing what he is saying. In this instance, it isn't Iggy being the "****-Head" although he has been one many times (anytime he argued with me)...oh wait...maybe I was miopic on those occaisions.

And publishing private IM's isn't a **** head move?

It's crap like this that might have turn me into the perceived curmudgeon. Scar tissue built up as an admin because you think you're being candid on a personal level and then have your **** published to the whole board.

....I'm seriously resisting the urge to 86 your *** out.

Lame move warsw. :angry2:

You call that a solution? It was a suggestion. I think his solution was a little uncalled for.
