You got me hooked! Late November will work. I have performances until mid Nov, the 11th. Though it sounds like it will happen earlier.

Central coast area, Paso, Cayucos, etc on Veteran's Day weekend works for me. Jocko's good place for steaks.

Weather should cooperate.

I always thought this was called the "Gathering of the Clans". Also thought that we were going to ride and camp around Lake Isabella at Fairview campgounds next to McNally's Steakhouse and bar. What do I know?
Make it so!
Nah, that's Highlander's gig. For history sake, I say that stays different unless High chucks it to someone else. I think Cali can afford 3 - 4 rides a year... South Coast, Central Coast, Northern Coast and Eastern Sierra region/Death Valley.
I always tried to plan the Gatherings as a day ride-in ( and overnight if you wanted to). The Lake Isabella is a lot closer to Socal than Norcal, I don't see Lake Izz being a day ride in. It was quite a haul from the Bay Area when I rode through to preview it when it was suggested. I think line between Morro and Sequioa is about perfect for a Gathering spot. I'm sorry I lagged at the planning this year guys, I just didn't find the time to do prerides of the area like I normally do on planned rides. The year's not over yet !!

hmmmm, lets see drink...check, large quantities of food....check, fellow fjr gang members....check, whats not to like. Pick a date.

i am in for sure.

could use a break from remodeling.

Just not the weekend of Oct14th as Me, Barry and the girls have a Cure concert to go to.

Can someone explain the difference between the Oct.6 ride to Avila Beach and this thread. I don't know the history of who planned what ride in the past. I have never ridden to Creston, but know someone who did. I did not sleep at the Holiday Inn and I thought she was 21.

Avila Beach is in early October in Northern Mexico. This one's not. :glare:

This Just In: You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.

Dates: Friday through Sunday, October 26 - 28, and any portion thereof (can do one or two nights).

Location: San Luis Obispo, California (not the one in Michigan). I checked, and there are a lot of cheap motels for you cheapskates.

Itinerary (Preliminary):

Friday Evening: Arrivals for some. Dinner, drinks, group hug.

Saturday Morning: Breakfast. Group ride for Friday and early Saturday arrivals. Back to SLO for lunch.

Saturday Afternoon: Afternoon ride for Saturday late-morning arrivers.

Saturday Evening: Dinner, drinks, group hug (no balloon condom contests or the whole deal's off <_< ).

Sunday Morning: Breakfast; groups heading to different compass points define their day's ride home.

Sunday Evening: Post pics to the FJR Forum, because if you didn't take a picture it didn't happen.

Homework Assignments:

  • I need someone to plan local rides.
  • Anyone want to take on motel duty?
JbP.S. This ain't WFO, so we don't need to overplan....

You put it so well JB! Sadly, I cannot make that weekend. The good news is that's pretty much the first time I can ride again. The bad news (from this point of view) is that I'm taking the first part of the MSF Coach class that weekend.

Do keep me on your mailing list for CaFO II, which is sure to happen, based on the success of the above event. I just KNOW that you guys are going to have a blast.

Jill

My schedule isn't set yet for that weekend, but Saturday night should be a safe bet either way.

I wanna meet some of those people who can be pleased all of the time. Oh, wait, I guess I already know them. They're called "men". Or is that "every time?"

I'll be there Friday night. But there's no guarantees that I'll participate in the group hug.

I'm just going there FOR the group hug...wear lead underwear if that's a problem...

Seriously, looking forward to it, and big kudos to JB for pulling this out of thin air. Even though he's a typical San Fran bigot against we SoCal LA/SD folks, he's still a good egg and was fun at the July bake-fest lunch meeting...

Maybe a dumb question, but, what's motel duty? Don't like the sound of it.
That's where one lucky participant, preferrably of the female persuasion and under 250 pounds, greets all the hardy road warriors after a hard days ride with...another?

Hey, I resemble that remark. I'm a SoCal boy myself: PVHS, Class of 1973.

Here's the motel I'm recommending. It's inexpensive (okay, cheap), and seems somewhat close to some restaurants....

San Luis Obispo Travelodge

IIRC, we've stayed at this motel before. It was cheap and cheerful and met our needs. There is a Mexican restaurant right next door, where the food was pretty good. Across the road is a fish restaurant, with a varied menu, where the food was also pretty good. Motorcycle parking is flat, level and within sight of the rooms. There is free coffee, and sugar/fat/preservative pastries in the lobby.

We had social time, in the parking lot, gathered around the bikes until very late at night. The management didn't appear to have any problems with us, despite the fact that we may have been a little loud.

I "must" bow out on this one, gotta full calendar on that weekend, must make my meager living! Otherwise, I would offer to be your guide in SLO county. So many roads, so little time. Dcarver can do it! He's a born again local in SLO!
