I haven't been a member very long, but have seen mention of this mod on several occasions with no real description of what it really is. From what I gathered so far from forum searches does it let you change settings on the ecu based on co in the exhaust using the dash display? Will it let you richen or lean your fuel settings?

Can anyone direct me to a link with a better description?

I am waiting on delivery of an 08 FJR when this miserable midwest winter ends, and am wondering if this mod would benefit me in any way or not. Just like to know the new bike inside and out.

Thanks for your replies in advance!

Welcome to the site!

Since it's a Friday you're liable to be dogpiled as the FNG asking questions that have been answered many times elsewhere on the forum. As a fellow FNG, let me try and head that off.

There are a couple of threads on the forum you should bookmark, one of them being the Gen II "Bin O' Facts" that has the answers to tons of questions about maintenance, torque values, modifications, and overall general knowledge:

Gen II Bin O Facts - this thread can be found stickied at the top of the FAQs and Common Historical Info subforum

It's not a thread here on the forums, but you'll also want to bookmark the FJRTech (run by forum admin Warchild) and FJR1300.info sites, which contain guides and HOW-TOs for almost all of the basic maintenance, some advanced maintenance, and popular modifications to be made to the FJR. They'll make for a good read while you're waiting on your bike to be delivered.

You'll also want to familiarize yourself with the forum's Search function, which can be found at the top right of any forum page. You can also search the site by using Google - just go to Google.com and enter your search terms along with "site:fjrforum.com" appended at the end. An example for a search about the Barbarian Mod on an '08 FJR would look like this: 08 barbarian mod site:fjrforum.com

WARNING - Not using the search function or Google to find an answer to your question before you post a new thread is likely to get you dogpiled if your question is a common one - WARNING

You may have already read it, but there is a thread discussing the worth of doing the Barbarian mod on an '08 FJR just a couple of threads underneath this one in the Technical Discussions subforum: https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=100538

Lastly, here is a page on FJRTech about the Barbarian jumper mod and how to do it. Just like you thought, it allows you to make moderate adjustments to your fuel/air mixture and can help eliminate lean surging at low throttle. *the instructions are for the Gen I FJRs, but according to the Gen II Bin O Facts, to do the mod on the Gen II: "the general instructions are the same. -- just remove the white plug out of 25, move the wire from 23 to 25, and put the white plug in 23"

Excellent post Jazzy! I'll even forget it isn't Friday.......... :p

To back up a step or two here – The CO adjustment should only need to be done if you are experiencing lean surging, it doesn’t really affect any other driveability issues. Lean surging will be noticeable at steady speeds while at low RPMs. If you don’t have this issue then there is no gain or reason in doing the Barbarian jumper/mod thingie. If you don’t have an aliment, why would you take a pill for it anyway?

Through research and actual CO measurement Tom Barber (Barbarian) and Dwayne Verhey (Torch) determined that for their particular ’03 motorcycles an increase in offset by 7 over the baseline CO level brought their CO levels to a more optimum level, without exceeding max. limits. Has anyone actually measured a Gen II which has different fuel pressure regulation and different ECU mapping? If not, your only guide to success would be the elimination of lean surging.

If I have said it once, I have said it a million times. The BJM (Barbarian Jumper Mod) is completely overrated, is misunderstood, and is given waaay too much credit. It's just one big SWAG. Without measurements, one has no ******* clue as to what they are doing. What problems they may be correcting only partially, or what problems they may be starting.

Here's some excellent info from one of the guys who developed the BJM: Torch speaks!!!

Wow! I guess that answers my question! I'm not the type that blindly follows the advice or suggestions of any tom **** or harry. I just like to get any/all information on something that interests me, then will decide if I would want to pursue it further. I just couldn't find any information that satisfied me using the search here or on Google. Sounds to me like this mod is something that is trying to bandage a problem that might be elsewhere.

Anyway thanks for the info. Now I'll be able to take this one off my list and go on to the next. There is a TON of snow on the ground here in Iowa, with another couple forcast for tonight. :( My 08 A will be delivered to me and my trade in picked up when the roads dry up. In the meantime I'll have to bide my time ordering a few farkles( Motovation sliders and bar end weights, MADCO throttle lock, and Fenda Extendah so far), and perusing this board.

Thanks for all your inputs!!
