I think that with the "Autocom" setup a special cable is required for the Garmin. Have you tried plugging the GPS into one of the other ports to see if it makes a difference?

On a second note, has anyone gotten a sun shield for their 2610, or find it necessary?
Yes. I bought one from Cyclegadgets. I had to "notch"it to get it to work with my lockable Touratech and it works great. Keeps the sun off the screen unless it's shining over my shoulder.

Thanks for the suggestion Mike, I've tried it in all the input slots... no joy.

I also got the sun shield (but think I got it from Cycoactive).... looks like it'll do the trick!

I can confirm that the 2730 is working schaaweeet through the Autocom Pro7 setup. There are no special cables needed, just a 3mm audio cable, which is supplied with the Autocom kit.

Anyone know if you need a special cable or anything in order to be able to properly amplify the voice commands coming out of a Garmin Streetpilot?
In one of the menu's, there will will be a setting that changes the output of the sound from the ciggi adapter to line out. Find that and you'll have all the volume you need. ;)

Not gonna happen. The 2730 software and manual describe what you're talking about Skyway... unfortunately the 2610 software doesn't have that option (line-out or ciggi).

Yet another good reason to stay away from the older Garmin 2610 and go with the newer 2720 or 2730. ;)

I can't be the first person to come across this... I've got an email in to John Brown who makes the Mixit2 to see if he has a fix. On his website there seems to be an adapter audio cable for Garmin GPSs... just need to hear back from him if that's what will solve my problem.

Gee, thanks James! :D For those of us who already have the 2610, isn't there a "special" cable needed? :)

This bridge has to have been crossed before with good results, I've seen wads of 2610's on bikes. I'll bet that forum member 'Kieth the almighty knowing of all things audio for motorcycles' knows the answer to this. ;) :D

Groo,

Congrats on the 2610 you will love this GPS. I have no volume problems with my 2610 running thru my audioboss. Ordered hard wire cable with head set plug in, but after a couple of weeks I quit using the speak feature on the 2610 and just use the screen directions. Got tired of all the voice commands.

Riding out to Big Bend Feb.16-20 same time as HSTA- Ride the Rio. Any chance you may be going out?

Garmin makes an audio out cable for all the 26xx and 27xx that you can connect to your autocom or headphone?

No big deal... ;)

Click on my website link below to see what one looks like, don't buy it from my store, get it from Garmin direct or a GPS store near you.

If you already own a 2610 and 2620, stick with it, it is a great product, but if you are thinking of getting a GPS, go with the latest model so you will have better product support and updates longer. I hope this makes sense.

Does the 2720 meet the "waterproof" standards like the 2610?
Yes.

Case: Rugged; fully gasketed, IPX-7 Waterproof*

*Most newer Garmin® GPS units are waterproof in accordance with IEC 60529 IPX7. IEC 60529 is a European system of test specification standards for classifying the degrees of protection provided by the enclosures of electrical equipment. An IPX7 designation means the GPS case can withstand accidental immersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

So, what have you done to mount your XM antenna? I received my 2730 yesterday and still pondering some options.

Yes, Garmin is great as far as updating their software - one of the main reasons I ended up going for the 2610 instead of a Magellan or other.

A mounting question for you guys - I ordered and received a $10 Ram Mount Cradle for the 2610 when I ordered the Stem Stand. Only issue is, it only has provisions for 2 mounting bolts to the top plate, not the expected 4. Otherwise, it works perfectly.

I'm concerned about only 2 bolts - would you guys trust it? Anybody have issues with bolts working loose from vibrations?

Thanks.

Bruce

You can always modify your stem Stand mount by drilling two extra holes to secure your GPS unit better. ;)
