Quiet night here tonight so I was booking my holidays, which required me to get a little more specific with my ride planning beyond a wishlist.

I know we've got a few guys from Ontario and Quebec going out so I'd thought I'd get the ball rolling with seeing who wants to go where with whom.

June 14 - Day 1 : Sudbury - Ashland Wisconson 898 - Superior South

June 15 - Day 2 : Ashland Wi - Beaver Creek Montana 1109

June 16 - Day 3 : Beaver Creek Mo - Cody Wyoming 686

June 17 - Day 4 : Cody Wy. - Browning Montana 833 - Chief Joseph/Beartooth Pass :yahoo:

June 17 - Day 4b: Cody Wy. - Kookskia Idaho 899 - Chief Joseph/Yellowstone/Lolo Pass :yahoo:

June 18 - Day 5 : Browning Montana - Nakusp BC 714 - Glacier Nat. Park - Hwy to the Sun :yahoo:

June 18 - Day 5b: Kooskia Idaho - Nakusp BC 684

June 19 - Day 6 : Nakusp!

June 20 - Day 7 : Nakusp!

June 21 - Day 8 : Nakusp BC - Jasper Alberta 552 - Icefields Parkway :yahoo:

June 22 - Day 9 : Jasper AB - Regina Sask. 1177

June 23 - Day 10: Regina SK - Kenora Ontario 789

June 24 - Day 11: Kenora ON - Rossport Ontario 655 - Superior North

June 25 - Day 12: Rossport On - Sudbury Ontario 813 - Superior North

This has me leaving on the Sunday arriving back home with 3 days to spare of vacation time. I'm actually thinking of pulling out on the Sat. to give me an extra day of site seeing time in the Rockies on the trip out. The list shows major attractions/roads for the trip and the approx. number of clicks. I was trying to keep daily mileage around 800km/day (500mi). theirs a couple of days that push that a bit, but those days is open prairie with not much to see = haul ***. You'll notice that I've done an alternate route out of Cody (4b and 5b) in case Hwy to the Sun/Beartooth passes are still closed. The alternate route cuts across the top end of Yellowstone and heads for infamous 77 miles of twisties at Lolo Pass in Idaho then north through Washington to BC. The two routes are roughly equivalent distance wise.

I'm planning on camping when feasible. Of course, after a long day day in the seat it won't take much arm twisting for me to spring for a room.

Thiers lots fudgeable in here. I'd wouldn't mind doing the Blackhills/Rushmore/Badlands.

Looks like a great plan.
I'll be just a day ahead of you leaving on the 13th from Wheaton...
At this point, daydreaming about June is the only thing getting me through Feb. I'm a bit concerned about the daily mileage, you know how that falls off after a few days.. and I still want to stop and snap some pics and enjoy the scenery. I guess that's why I left the 3 extra days, but still, some recovery time is always nice too :D

I might actually get to do the Cabot Trail this summer as well - turns out I *have to* use up a minimum of 5 weeks holidays this year. Both coasts in one summer? and I still have time blocked to do EOM once again - gotta get me a fix of West Virginia!

Hey Steve you route looks pretty good. It has lots of promise.

Rob

A couple of thing that might improve your route. First Browning MT has a bad reputation as not being a very friendly place to stay, keep going a bit further and try East Glacier or St. Marys.

Rooms in Jasper are very expensive, if your camping that won't matter much. Valemount BC is West of Jasper about 75 clicks and a much more economical choice.

I'm not sure what the attraction to Beaver Creek MT is but there's not much out in that part of MT. If your already interested in the Black Hills you might swing south some where and try that. Then cross WY on US-14 and US-14A to Cody through the Big Horn Mtns.

Here's what I've got in mind for my CFR Experiance Link

Noted about Browning, thanks for the heads up.

I've actually got a place to stay if I want it in Calgary, so I might go up to Jasper, then turn around and head back to Calgary. Long day though. I haven't yet looked for camping areas around Jasper. They shouldn't be to hard to find though.

Theirs nothing in Beaver Creek other than a hotel LOL! It was the closest one I found at my end of day. I was checking campsites around there (Roosevelt) and their just big honkin' RV parks which isn't in my play book.

Your route looks interesting as well. Funny how google maps won't let you route over seasonal roads. Have you made an alt. plan in case Hwy 2 Sun is still closed ? (likely from what I hear this year - depends on the spring, they've had a LOT of snow so far this year)

No, not yet but that's a good idea some years they don't get the road open until July. I'm meeting a non-FJR buddy from Cali maybe we'll just do the route backwards.

Actually this is still pre- busy season and good accomodation can be found at reasonable rates. That being said, there is no shortage of beautiful places to camp in the area. There is also a good Hostel on the parkway if weather isn't ideal and you don't feel like pitching your tent!

I wouldn't even eat in Browning, gas only, man! Nasty little place!

Gunny on expensive rooms in Jasper, unless you want to splurge and maybe stay at the Jasper Park Lodge. If you are going thru Valemount , stay there and get a great morning view of Mt Robson as you head towards Jasper.

My route is getting refined, and, I briefly toyed with heading for Hyder. The outcome of that is I'm heading north out of Nakusp on the return trip up to Prince George then east to Jasper. Of course, this means at some point on during the weekend, I'm going to have to do the Glacier/Golden ride. Dammit! To many great places to see! My. Head. Exploding.

Watch that 'haul ***' portion of your prairie ride. Unless you have absolute clean sight lines don't do it. Road tax in Manitoba for speeding really sucks.

That's a great trip you have planned, Bungie. If you have the time to do your 4b alternate route, you won't be disappointed. Hwy 12 west of Lola Pass is one of the best bike roads in the US. Truly spectacular. I covered it on a trip I did from Vancouver down to Utah - Arizona in September. If you can afford the time, I suggest you get off Hwy 12 at Orofino and take the road to Kendrick. It climbs out of the valley with lots of twists and hairpin turns all the while giving you a spectacular view down to the valley bottom. From Kendrick, you can make your way over to Moscow and get onto some faster roads to take you north.

Also, here's a great web site you can use for your trip planning if you have time to explore along the way (doesn't sound like it but you never know):

Good luck and we'll see you at the CFR! :D

I lived in Edmonton and Regina....that's an awful boring ride from Jasper to Kenora, at least 20 hours of straight riding. Once was enough for me so my ride planning is all through the States. I'll send you the route I've tentatively laid out using the HD ride planner. Let me know what you think!

I'd be interested in taking a peek at that, I'm guessing your going to be doing Hwy 2? In talking with friends they all recommend taking the more northerly route across the Cdn. prairies (16? I think into Winterpeg). Even if I hate it, I want to cross provinces at least once. Just to be able to cross them off my list :D

Stuff for the trip is trickling in here - Picked up some more camping gear (black diamond lantern ROCKS!), got my LDComfort gauchies in yesterday.. just waiting on my passport and get the bike prepped.

Hey! I just realized, were less than 90 days from CFR :clapping:
