Yes I would be interested as well in that route. But I have to agree with Steve in as I want to able to say I rode across the Canadian provinces. Boring as it is.....

My route there is semi cast in stone... the route back... well I'll think about it so more...

He's coming across quite a bit south of us (Illinois/Iowa/SD).. he's got a long haul with his return route (Colorado). Looks good though!

Tom, didn't you say you and the miss's were heading out a week ahead of us? As I mentioned, my route really hasn't changed much, just a little loop north out of BC to catch the full affect of the Ice Fields Parkway - gotta see Mt. Robson. That's the problem - once you get into the mountains, theirs no shortage of sights to see and not enough time to do it in! I made that mistake last year at EOM. We rode the wheels off the bikes, but never really stopped to enjoy the sights.

Mt. Robson NEEDS to be experienced from a southern approach on your 1st view....I may have already mentioned this. If so, tell me to screw off.

Jasper? sigh....I'd love to get lost there on a bike for weeks. To capture all the different colors just in the waters alone, by camera!

(of course, after Mt. Robson, you have to stop at Miette Hot Springs to relax and ready yourself for Jasper........j'es sayin)

Steve

I think you are confusing Tom's plan's with ours, We are leaving June 6th, Our route out is over Superior then into the Dakota's, Yellowstone then north to Jasper and back down to the meet.

No, I don't think you did, but I'd be happy to tell you if you haven't been told today :p

Well that's one part of the trip that I don't think is gonna change, I'll be approaching Robson from the West via Valemont. But I've got mirrors and the ability to turn around for pics. I found some oriental guys vacation blog on google images from his trip through BC.. his pics were VERY good, and, he was very detailed in his directions for exact locations. Since then, Bow Valley has been added to the route. I so wish I could spend an extra week out there to see everything I want to see. Guess I'll have to return!

Quite possibly.. See if I'm mistaken when Tom shows up. At this point, it looks like I'll be heading out with Rob - if he gets the time off.

i'm gonna have a hell of a time planning a route out with you guys cluttering up all the roads!! :to_become_senile:

Well I think I said that...maybe I was talking to myself. WE (myself, Pam, Maryellen)are trying to head out on the 6th or the 7th. I can't leave until Maryellen shows up, LOL.

Our route there gets us to Vancouver Island in 8 days... there abouts...

We will have a look see around the island, squeeze in some visiting and then head to Naksup.

The route out will be almost all in the states or until we head north into BC which should be either Cranbrook or Creston.

As I said before ....going is semi planned out.... coming home maybe a little more direct and it's still unplanned... with a couple of stops.

Ok.... where is this mountain yous is talking about?

The last I heard, the date was 7th or 8th ! ;)

Just give me a few days' notice and I'll be there. Still no word on my Leave Request - and probably won't have it until late April - or into May :( The joys of being a nurse....

Mt. Robson

Not seeing Mt Robson is like going to the Himilayas and not seeing Everest. 2nd highest peak in the Cdn Rockies or something. It's west of Jasper on the Yellowhead Hwy. This is the reason I'm leaving Nakusp north through Valemont.

Ok... thanks Steve... I was thinking of heading that way after leaving Nakusp anyhow...

I've been thru western Canada many times by bike and car, so we're going to do the Western US this time...still many, many details to work out, but this is the preliminary plan. Welcome any suggestions!

Crossing at Sarnia sucks, I was in the lineup for 2hrs last time.

Don't have a good alternative though for you, Detroit is a no go zone for me at the moment, that was always a scary run to the tunnel, It can't be any better with the current employment situation.

The last time I cross in Sarnia there was no one there.... midnight crossings are always good.

Long weekends can be bad...

I haven't firmed up any plans yet, but I was toying with the idea of a BB Gold on the way out. I'm kinda limited on my vac time and I'd rather spend more time in the mountains than in the prairies. 1500 miles puts me about 15 hours from Nakusp, so I either do a 24 hour ride followed by a 15 hour ride or I break it up into 3 days. If I'm going to take 3 days, then I'm only saving 1 vacation day and I may as well take my time and enjoy the sights. If I decide to take my time I will try to link up with one of you guys. I'm taking my camping stuff but I don't mind motelling it either.

I much prefer the Sarnia crossing, but I agree it depends on the time of day/week.

I'm really REALLY looking to forward to this trip. It has been many years since I have been in the Canadian Rockies. Each day that it doesn't snow makes me more excited.

Yeah...had no choice but to cross Sarnia going into Canuckiastan on a Friday afternoon going to CFR 2007...hour wait on top of the bridge while high cross winds were going was real fun. :) Going northbound out of Toronto at Friday eve rush towards EOM central - priceless. Actually, Tom gave me some good hints that limited the damage going though that area. Thanks Tom. :clapping:

Well your welcome to tag along with me (though I'm gonna cross at the Sault). I'm pretty sure Rob, who you rode out to CFR last year with, is tagging along with me. I think were all in agreement that the prairies will be dispatched with haste :D But I'm looking forward to the western section of my trip (Chief Joseph/Beartooth/Lolo) which will be an extra day for you. We'll get it firmed up when Rob knows where he stands.

As for the snow.. its F'n snowing out again up here! Fer Chrissakes! Its +3C!

As for Toronto.. I avoid that cesspool at all costs.
