I'm in official training for CFR; got my first ride of the season under my belt today. Sweet little 250km . Did several rear end toning exercises and it's looking good.

Here is my first cut at a route; this should avoid all that traffic. Might be a bit ambitious but it ticks off my current bucket list of Radisson, Yellowknife, Prince George and Mt St Helen's (third try) :D

Holy shiteroni! Your gonna do the Radisson run! Thats quite the trip you've got laid out there. You must be taking what? 4 weeks? Wish I could do that.. I have the time available, I just can't book more than 2 weeks at a stretch.

Crossing at Sarnia sucks, I was in the lineup for 2hrs last time.Chris
The last time I cross in Sarnia there was no one there.... midnight crossings are always good.

Long weekends can be bad...
Yeah...had no choice but to cross Sarnia going into Canuckiastan on a Friday afternoon going to CFR 2007...hour wait on top of the bridge while high cross winds were going was real fun. :) Going northbound out of Toronto at Friday eve rush towards EOM central - priceless. Actually, Tom gave me some good hints that limited the damage going though that area. Thanks Tom. :clapping:
Last time I crossed at Sarnia (GFs parents live there) there was traffic backed up for several kilometers before the bridge. We postponed the crossing and turned around. The next morning, a weekday IIRC, at 8:30 there was noone there! Crossed into the states, picked up a package, and crossed back all in less than a half hour... and Customs didn't even bother charging me the GST on the stuff I brought back! :yahoo:

It's all in the timing I guess!

As I sit here watching the snow fall (freekin April and its still snowing.... ugh.) a little mental math tells me were at what? T-9 weeks before CFR? Come on JUNE!

For you Frostbacks out there who need a passport, get'r done! I got mine back in the mail today, after they declined it once (forgot to photocopy / notarize my drivers license) in 3 weeks. But you know as June gets closer its gonna be longer turnaround time.

So it's getting closer. I decided to hold the Radisson loop until the end; Hydro Quebec had cancelled all La Grand hydro tours until further notice due to biological hazard protocol ie swine flu but I see today that tours seem to be on again. I'll check more on the way home (And the bugs are better in the fall! :dribble: )

So looks like I'll reverse the route & come around via the States thru Cody and up to Mt St Helenes then Naksup, Pr George etc. Bought a Nuvi 550 to help me navigate thru to Yellowknife; don'ty want t miss the turnoff.

Haven't done the detail timing or route planning yet but looks like I might leave Ottawa 6-7 June t to hopefully amble into Naksup on the 18th in time for tea. :yahoo: Is my name on the old folks breakfast list?

Your southern route looks identical to our route out - your just gonna be a week ahead of us! Instead of going to Mt. St. Helens, were doing Lolo Pass and the Flowery Trail instead. Right now, I'm heading out with Moosehead on the 13th.

I noticed theirs a few others from Ontario that haven't chimed in with departures and routes. I'll drop them a PM and see whats up. How about it ice_station_zebra, Hadley and PGoodall, all from Ontario what are your plans?

I just put some new PR2s on the bike but will I have to bring some snow chains if the weather out west doesn't improve soon!?

I'm ordering a set of PR2's from Pete's in QB today. I've been watching the weather as well. I'm already getting screwed out of GTS. The way its going, Beartooth will be closed as well!.

Pierre

Diana and I are leaving on the 6th.

Current thoughts are to stay in Sudbury on the 6th and try and hook up with Bungie for a beer.

Our route out is similar to your route now except we are going over Superior before heading back down to the Black Hills

Chris

On the 6th Pam and myself will be leaving home and that night we should be in Marquette MI. We are riding south of Superior, then through Duluth , Fargo and on I 94.

First planned stop is Custer's Last stand. Then we may have change plans a little because Bear tooth pass may not be open.

But yellowstone is still planned then head north into Canada and on to Vancouver .

I'll wave as I go through around nap time; my first hop is to SSM on the 6th. :drinks:
Well if you want to take a rest stop, your welcome to take the 10 minute detour as you pass through to my place. I'll PM you on my addy and telephone number. If not, we'll see you in Nakusp.

Can anyone put up the coordinates for Pete's where you bought your tires? I have a real hard time in Vancouver finding a Canadian source that has anything close to reasonable prices. That's why I usually buy my tires in the US.

This is a pre boarding announcement only.

Pre departure jitters have subsided. I have now changed my oil and filter so I am fully committed. I am ready. I have my passport and have whited out my old Cuba visas so as not to raise any eyebrows at the border. ETD is Sat oh dark thirty (probably not, since the sun rises here at 5:15 am. I'm anxious but not that anxious! ) The weatherman has changed the Sat forecast every hour on the hour from rain to sun to rain so screw him. I have Canadian and American dollars. My GPS is programmed to get me to my first "CFR" stop in Sudbury at Steves. House chores are completed; bills are paid; my credit card company knows that I'll be spending $20 every few hours across north america and does not need to phone continually my wife to tell her that someone is ripping off our account. All is in readyness. I am at peace!
