Meet-and-Greet Location:

Perk Presidio Cafe

Letterman Digital Arts Center

1913 Letterman Drive

Presidio of San Francisco

See this link for the web site of the cafe, and this link for the Google map info. Plenty of free parking. The cafe is down the pedestrian walkway that runs between the buildings and behind the building.

Meet & Greet Time and Ride Kick-Off: We will meet between 9 am and 10 am, time for all to get there, socialize a bit, admire each other's motorcycles and farkles, have a coffee, take a leak, etc. We will head out at about 10 am.

Route Information:

Note: This will be a scenic ride, nice and casual. Not a lot of opportunity to dial it up. So be prepared to relax and see some beautiful sights. And the organization and pace will be such that no one need worry about getting left behind. Total ride distance: 108 miles (thank you, jwhite518)

  1. Short tour of the Presidio.
  2. Cross the Golden Gate Bridge (no toll required).
  3. Take the first exit (Alexander--do not go into the scenic lookout right before the Alexander exit). Go left under the freeway. Before merging back onto the Golden Gate Bridge (Hwy 101 South), bear right up the mountain.
  4. Go to the top of the mountain and stop briefly at the overlook of the GGB and San Francisco.
  5. Continue down behind the mountain and around through the one-way tunnel. Go to the stop sign; turn right.
  6. Merge back onto Hwy 101 North, continue through the Waldo tunnel several miles to the Hwy 1 exit.
  7. Take Hwy 1 all the way past Stinson Beach to Pt. Reyes Station.
  8. Stop at Pt. Reyes Station for gas, bathroom, etc.
  9. Continue north on Hwy 1 to Tomales. Stop at deli.
  10. Turn left on Beach Rd. Take it to Dillon Beach.
  11. Break for lunch at Dillon Beach.
  12. After lunch, head back south on Hwy 1 briefly to Tomales - Petaluma Rd.
  13. Left on Tomales - Petaluma Rd.
  14. Right on Chileno Valley Rd. (If you go past the Coast Guard station and hit the stop sign, you missed it!)
  15. Right on Wilson Hill Rd.
  16. Left on Hicks Valley Rd.
  17. Right on Petaluma - Pt. Reyes Rd.
  18. Left on Nicasio Valley Rd.
  19. Stop at Nicasio for a break.
  20. Continue on Nicasio Valley Rd.
  21. Left on Lucas Valley Rd. to Hwy. 101.
Other Stuff to Note:
  • Bring $4 bridge toll where you can reach it if you're crossing a bridge on your way to the rendezvous. (We will not be crossing the Golden Gate Bridge in the toll direction, so we won't need $5 for that.)
  • Pack a lunch or plan to get something at the Tomales Deli. We will be stopping to get off and picnic at the beach. You may also want to pack a blanket to sit on.
  • Bring $3 parking / entrance fee for Dillon Beach lunch stop.
  • Bring warm- and cold-weather gear, as the coast can be unpredictable (as you all know!).

Hey JB - I go to jail to serve my pittance to society on the 18th.. so I'm a free man unil this date.. Ok if I show up on a Harley? The FJR is having a valve transplant...

Anyone interested? :)
Come on out my way, and I'll show you some cool roads and we'll hit the local sport bike night at my favorite accessory dealer. Free pizza!
I will ride to Washington D.C. for free pizza. But no seriously, I was just thinking that I'd love to do a Central California ride some weekend; stay over maybe Friday and Saturday nights. Isn't Carver down that way too? You anywhere near Kernville? When I was a wee lad going to Palos Verdes High School, my buddy and I spent many a smoky evening toking around a campfire in the woods off the fire roads out of Kernville and Lake Isabella.

Let's get it on the calendar....

I have my reputation to consider and have to be careful the kinds of people I associate with. The felon part's okay. It's the Harley I'm worried about.... :glare:

Oh, all right. Run what ya brung...!

JB, google map Atascadero, CA then head east by about 20 miles to Creston. Home sweet home. I'm planning an FJR central coast campout after my prison sentence. For the diehards, it will start Friday night, end Monday morning!

hey, it's ok JB, I promise not pass you in the decreasing radius off camber corner when your little fjr peeps are around.. :yahoo:

I'll "pencil" it in. The kids are pouring concrete and building a shed and have asked Dad to come down to Fresno. If its a free weekend, I'll be in Marin.

A "MAYBE" for me at this point. I get a year older the next day, and "I Can't Do 55", have jury duty on Monday, and don't know precise timing for a couple other commitments, but I'm certainly considering it.

I might be up for that. One of these weekends, I mean to go pay Rick Mayer a visit and get a new seat - I'd really like to get that done before my next big ride. Hopefully if I can make it this time, it'll be at the same time as everyone else (not 3 hours behind the pack, like the Napa run).

Sounds nice but we "no can do" unfortunately.

We are now full time nurses/rehab/physical therapists (this to keep Andy out of a nursing facility) until #1 son gets on his feet, literally, which is prob. 4-6 weeks.

Whoever makes it - good and safe riding to ya's.

Thanks for the link Hans :)

I'll do that soon. Been wanting to get down Isabella way before it gets too hot.

It's spring in California, and of course the first thing that comes to mind is...

No, not bikinis at the beach! Can we try to stay focused please? This ain't the Bikini Forum after all (which is the only thing that really gripes my *** about this forum ! :angry2: )

Anyway, where was I? Oh yes.... The, uh, second thing that comes to mind is motorcycle riding. :yahoo:

It seems we have a lot of riders in the Bay Area (and even more if we include the Northern Bay Area suburb of Sack-a-Tomatoes). So let's get together and ride one of the most beautiful (and expensive!) places in the world: Marin County:

If we get a critical mass of riders who express interest and availability for Saturday, April 14, then I will proceed with trip planning. Of course a must-stop stop would be the overlook of San Francisco shown in the first link under my signature below.

Anyone interested? :)

Jb, count me out, wife's birthday on the 14th

Would absolutely love to but a little high-side has me on the down-low for at least a couple months. Even my WFO plans are all but shot!

I'm trying to be patient and content with healings glacial pace but all the bikes on the road today makes it rough.

Must be a good boy to ride another day. B)

Did I miss something?

Ok I'll mark the calender also ! Sounds good JB.

Not only should we visit your not so secret spot, a tour through the whole base further up that road should be included in the plans. It's slow speed wise, but the whole park area views are outstanding out towards the Pacific.

KhunaJawdge and I have had a couple PM's about organizing a trip to Lake Isabella. I believe KJ is working on it being around the beginning of June. A scouting trip is planned and he'll post up the plan soon.

Stay tuned.........
