Well, it was a real priviledge to be at the start of this year's IBR and meet Warchild, Ignacio, Doug Chapman, SkooterG and others. Quite a bit of excitement as they made final preparations. I think Warchild was as excited as the riders as he hugged his bullhorn preparing to unleash the troops!

Here's a few shots I got of the FJRs represented this year, before the start. I'll post the 1st bonus location photos in a separate post to follow.

A little wet for the start

Iggy strikes "the Pose" before the start!

Doug Chapman, whose travels we can follow on Star-Traxx.com, along with Iggy, who is riding with Doug.

I believe this is Iggy's buddy from Oregon? I didn't get a chance to meet him.

Check out the rash on the fairing ... a sign of many miles looking for "Bonii" to bag!

A BMW GS, as I had interest in these, since I own one as well. Check out the "EASY" button on the dash! He also has his checklist written in Sharpie on the inside of the windscreen!

Since they posted the first bonus location last night on the IBR website, I decided to leave the hotel before the start and head downtown to the Gateway Arch, where approx. 90 riders would be bagging their first bonus.

Pics to follow in another post.

Nice...

We made it out there Sat kind of late. We checked out the area, the bikes and chatted with a few folks. Couldn't find Iggy or Dale, was told he headed up to the room to get cleaned up from the days heat and humidity.

Hotel was booked so we had to stay that Hampton inn up the road. Went out for dinner, and planed Sundays ride back. Was fun, hotter than hell but fun.

I have a few photos of dry bikes on my site.

Re: Crazy Tank

Let me just say, WTF?! OK, I'm all for the goal, but damn! Do it with some semblance of style, people! Sheesh!

I imagine it gets the job done, doesn't it? Function over Form. Not necessarily a bad thing.
I suppose so... Not sure I'd want something that big and solid to bang my nads on in a get-off.

BTW: So just exactly how does the IBA tech staff calculate and/or verify fuel limits? I *think* the limit is 11.4 gals or such but how does they tech staff judge that?

Dale?

This guy was not a rider in the IBR, and in fact, I had to have him move his bike outside the compound. Only Staff bikes and official IBR entrants were supposed to be in the compound.

The top one is Dick Peek's bike (GoFar), the '07 belongs to Dave Hinks, IIRC......

Here's a couple more shots of FJRForum members that I ripped off from various places:

Naturally, since there are 14 FJR1300s entered in the 2007 Iron Butt Rally, we all would like to see one on the Top Podium at the Finish on Aug 31. B)

However, if a Beemer dude had to win the event... I would like to see this guy do it: Eric Jewell. He may be among the very best who has not won the event. Seems he's always in the Top 10 in whatever event he enters, and a nicer guy you will never meet. He was tardy making it to St Louis this past weekend, arriving late Saturday night. He was the vary LAST bike to go through Tech Inspection on Sunday.

Here I am taking Eric's odometer reading prior to him going out to complete the Odometer Calibration course, the final step in Tech Inspection:

I'm with Nut....WTF indeed? Maybe he can lie on it? take the weight off the arms??? Na it looks fucking ugly no matter what it does!
iiuc that's the rider that is not in the IBR but is going to attempt an personal ride while the IBR is going on. 11 consecutive BBGs!

Sigh.... :( I wish I could have stuck around for the start of the rally, unfortunately just didn't have the time off. Being there helping Warchild for tech inspection was alot of fun though. This was the first time I was on this side of an inspection, and it gave me some appreciation for what the inspectors go through, and why they sometimes harass the riders....

yes! that's John Ryan! he's in our club, well the Jersey Shore Riders club...he came in 7th in 2005 on his K75. He's incredible though, attempting this 11 day BBG's is crazy IMO but he was left out of the IBR for some reason or another. Type 2 diabetic as well which makes him even more amazing.

from the IBR site i heard there was a problem with one of the FJR's alternator, wasn't pumping out enough volts (something like 12 rather than 14). Said the guy is going to go on prozac if a beemer wins this rally LOL

Ummmm you've got your facts a little screwy, but yes Doug Chapman's FJR wasn't putting out the proper voltage. From reading Ignacio's blog, it seems to be doing better... at least well enough to continue until the bike shuts down.

Thanks for all of the great photos! I notice that most of these guys have very tall windshields and water with them, I like to know what the heavy hitters use.

From what I saw, they all had Skyway Hydration, or something very similar.

One thing to note, I didn't see a single one with a V-Stream  (But I didn't see all 14, but I looked at most)

A lot of Rifle's and Cal Sci screens.
