I talked with 2 different counties in California, Santa Barbara and Riverside CHP officers who said they will be switching from the top heavy and slow BMW's to the yamaha FJR's. One of the tester, were retro fitting highway bars for added safety, and thought I would ask if anyone here would consider highway bars on there bikes if they were available? Personally, before I had put over 50 miles on my FJR, I had my sliders on, and because I've been on a couple of accidents where my leg was pinned under the weight of the bike, I would seriously consider them on my bike. I am even considering powdercoating cobalt blue, if I can get my hands on them. Would you put them on or stay with Sliders?

Interesting idea but what kind of optionswould you have? If they were portable and you could remove them if you wanted to maybe yes maybe no ??

Look at the bright side of things... Yammy would have to beef up the alternator,Then we can snatch the baby up! :haha:

I suppose it is possible with enough fabrication, but in the process the looks of the bike would be sacrificed; I would think the bike would take on a 'stunt bike' look with one of the 'cages' that surround the motor. No thanks, I'll stick with the sliders. OTOH, if I was going literally 'around the world' on the bike.... (like that British guy did *what was his name?* years back on a Triumph Daytona) Hmmm...naaah!

The CHP in the northern CA bayarea are going to the Honda ST 1300. Don't ask me why. But about the highway bars, I would only use them if they came with freeway pegs and suicide shift. Painman. :dribble:

That'd be Nick Sanders, back in 1997, riding a Daytona 900. He's done it again recently, this time on a Yamaha R1. He's a few cards short of a full deck, really

LEOs may need them because they engage in unusual riding to do their job,

but crash bars on a FJR ?? That is as wrong as two boys kissing.

I would consider it if they looked right on there. As others have said, it would provide a place to mount a few things. Something that wrapped around close to the fairing and followed the lines of the bike migh look OK.

My local cops have also gone to ST1300's.

Okay, so how can the CHiP's use FJR's with our anemic electrical capacity? High electrical output is always a cop-bike specification. Is there a new high-output option we need to know about?
