Strengthening Gen 2 Mirror Mounts

There's a thread on here somewhere where someone talks about strengthening the mirror mounts on a Gen 2 when auxiliary lights are fitted as the mounts are not as strong as those on a gen 1 and may break. I believe there was picture of what they'd done. I thought I'd even commented in it but despite looking at my posts, and using the site search and Google I can't find the thread.

Is anyone able to point me at it please?

Edit: [slightly later] Ah, that's a UK Gen 2 not a US gen 2 isn't it. Ours is a UK gen 3/US gen 2 (confusing isn't it).

I think you'll find both are what we all call a Gen 2, the post referred to is a Gen 2 (an '06), the same as your '08.

I think you'll find both are what we all call a Gen 2, the post referred to is a Gen 2 (an '06), the same as your '08.

On the UK FJ/FJR forum the 2001-2 models are commonly called gen 1, 2003-5 gen 2 (released in the US in 2002 AIUI), 2006- gen 3. You're right that the 2006 should be the same as mine though so I'll need to go back to the dealer tomorrow to see why he's telling me the photo's show an earlier model sub-frame to what he has just removed.
