    Best engine configuration??

I guess I was thinking best for"Mechanical excellence" ie smooth power delivery , V-8s are great got a couple of them myself on the other hand I also like thumpers as long as they are counterbalanced and the balancer shaft is not chain driven. " But for a motorcycle got to love the 90 degree...

    Best engine configuration??

What do you think?? I think that an engine that doesn't require counter balancers is the best. So... Here is my list. 2 cylinder 90 degree V- twin 4 cylinder 90 degree V - four 4 cylinder horizontally opposed boxer 6 cylinder Inline All these engines have perfect primary and...

    Valve adjustment intervals are bogus!

It is not surprising that forum posters won't agree that they are paying for a maintenance procedure that is not needed. A part of the "forum" mentality on all motorcycle forums that I read is that you should maintain the bike as per the manual. But what if the manual wasn't written by...

    Valve adjustment intervals are bogus!

Who makes these intervals up anyway. I own or have owned many solid lifter type vehicles and the adjustment intervals have been all over the map. For example our beloved FJR 26000 miles VFR 800 14880 miles 08 kLR 650 15000 miles 08 Kawi super sherpa 250 7500 miles Subaru WRX...

    Tire Combo anyone?

For your tires that is . My combo would be Bt020 front Bt021 rear.Reason the 021 front flatspots and wears out in a hurry while the 020 front does cup but doesn't get any flat spots and anyway the cupping can be controlled with 40 psi inflation pressure. Far as the rear goes I like the dual...

    rearend gear lube questions

I have got to say that the rear axle is one tough component because a while back I lost my drain plug on the road :dribble: Spread the oil out every where . I guess it was running on mist lubrication for at least 35 miles . Got a plug from a junked Honda trany and filled it with oil and was...

    BT-21's

Since the Concours has the 021's I decided to go check out what the little tire pressure sticker said on the side of the 08 model on the showroom floor at our local dealer... Guess what 42 psi front and rear recommended pressure .. so I was running 38 psi in my front when it flat spotted maybe...

    If sport touring tires suck.......

Just an observation but ...there just doesn't seem to be any tire out there made by man for the FJR that will A: not cup b: not flat spot c: not wear out in 4000 miles d:not vibrate and wobble Is there no one that is satisfied with their tires??

    If sport touring tires suck.......

Why not try a sport tire such as Bridegestone Bt 015 which is the standard tire for new Hayabusa . Will it cup or wear a flat spot?? Give it a try .....If it can handle 200 hp and 114 ft-lbs of torque it should be ok for the FJR. :yahoo:

    BT-21's

As I was mentioning I have some weird wear going on with my front bt021 check it out with the link below . I have been running about 38 psi in the 021 the other tire on the left was the trusty 020 and it was run at 36 psi when it failed. So I guess I better run the pressure at 41 psi from now...

    BT-21's

I have about 4500 miles on my bt 021's and the front has worn a noticeable flat spot . Never had that happen before on a front have always used bt020's .The low speed turn is off and basically the handling has really deteriorated . Has anybody had this issue? I wonder if the 020 on the front...

    26000 valve check

Just my opinion but.. the Fjr certainly depreciates at let us say a "normal "rate for a Japan built bike so that if the bike is say 5 years old and aproaching a 26000 mile service maybe logically it would be best for you to just save your money and ride the bike soon it won't be worth enough...

BT-021, Hungry for twisties? These tires are Yummy

Have about 1800 miles on my bt 021s and...very nice handling tire but the front is flat spotting rear is also flat spotting but no worse the the bt 020. Subject to some very spirited riding for 550 miles lot's of nice roads but a LONG straight drone to get to the good roads.Of course the FJR is...

Thanks RsvlFeej I think I will do the same and use the trip meter like we all did in the good old days.

    Fuel sender help??

After 5 years (almost )of ownership I have something to complain about :angry2: .My fuel sender is giving me a false reading . The thing goes on reserve at 200 kms or 120 miles and won't go over 3/4 when filled right to the top. I checked the manual and it says if resistance isn't in spec...

Has your 1st gen FJR been repaired for "The Tick"??

My 2003 serial number 00000002 Canadian model has 34000 kms and is NOT a ticker ( very quiet) so cross your fingers!!!
  18. N

Oh no, I have a ticker

But if the new ones don't tick ,and the dealers don't know about tickers anyway ,and if it is repaired it may tick again do yourself a favor and get rid of it as it is tainted and get a knew one.
  19. N

Oh no, I have a ticker

Here is what you do.... at the first sign of ticking just trade it off and be done with it.That is what Iam going to do the dealers don't care just get rid of it.
