HELP WANTED! Soak Clutch? Rebuild? Ideas?

Check for pressure in the system (bleed valve). If no pressure present, then you are looking at disassembly. You will be able to see if the plates are damaged when you disassemble it. You need to inspect all the friction plates. One damaged plate will make it slip (car oil damage (I speak from...

What did you do to your FJR today?

Santa left me a late Christmas present on the front porch when I got home last night. I had to mount it up and take it for a ride. I think it looks wonderful on the bike, and the six miles or so I rode it make me think I might like it a lot. It is likely to be spring before I know how much I...

What did you do to your FJR today?

While the poor girl should be parked in the garage getting a lot of needed maintenance performed, I could not help it and had to ride her to work. I don't think a few hundred over on an oil change is going to hurt her, and the tires are not showing cords yet.

Much better reason then I usually come up with. Good thinking!

2nd Gear got bit by the Dragon

I have not had to do this to an FJR, but I have had to do this to several used bikes that I have purchased over the years. In my opinion, if the fork(s) are bent, you will be replacing gears as well. I would not recommend trying to go short and cheap with this repair.

Considering used: should I be afraid of the auto-clutch?

Yes, 2006 - 2009 had earthing issues. 2011 + had recall for front brake switch. I own a 2010 and am not a part of either recall, but truth be told, only time will determine if 10's are truly the best year for the FJR.

    Reving throttle kills cold engine

Make sure the idle is set around 1100. Any lower and you will have all kinds of funky idle problems. Including a lack of performance on take off, stalling at lights, and the problem you just mentioned. I bet your idle is under 1000 rpm when warm.

    BT023GT front cupping

I see cupping in both of those pictures. Looks like normal heavy motorcycle front tire cupping to me. I doubt it has an effect on handling, but it is there and it will only get worse.

What did you do to your FJR today?

Started 16,000 mile service at 16,060 miles. Changed the oil, oil filter, diff fluid, and blew out the air filter last night. Plan on doing the relay thing this weekend or some weekend soon when it cools off. Good on all of these picture. Thanks guys.

    Vandalism Prevention Ideas?

I suspect you need to stop these idiots from doing this to you and others. The best way to accomplish this is to get them on video and let your police get involved. When the parents have to come up with the money to repair the damage to your property they will fix the problem with their kids. It...

    2004 Ignition Failure. Really?

I would check the battery cables and battery. I would likely replace the battery even if it tested good. Check those cables at both ends, don't just look at them. Did I mention to check your battery cables?

    Passenger Getting on Bike

I mount on the left side. Brace myself, signal for my passenger to mount on the left side, raise the side-stand. When it is time to dismount, I put the side-stand down, brace the bike, and signal for the passenger to dismount on the left side. I dismount after my passenger dismounts. Wife...

    TBS and vacuum gauge oscillations

You will need something to dampen the gauges. I recommend you purchase a set made for this type of operation. What you are seeing is normal, but you are not likely to get the sync done with that type of gauge. I have seen guys make their own gauges, their are even a couple of posts on this...

    Driveshaft Effect

Nearly 16,000 mile on my 2010 and it has done this since it was new. I almost always have a hand on the bars so I don't let it worry me much. I just assumed that they all did this and you can not feel it is you have a hand on the bars.

    Clutch Soak, outer plate issue

One more thing I have not seen covered. This is exactly the initial damage one could expect to see if using an oil with a friction modifier (don't as how I know). I have to ask, you are not using a car oil are you?
