    Who Crashed Saturday Morning...

For whatever reason, not all FJR riders participate in, or are even aware of, this forum, so perhaps it was one of them. Whoever it was, I wish them all the best and a speedy recovery.

Newbie here, Question about 2 up riding...

As counterpoint, I bought my '06 a year ago specifically for two-up touring. Didn't work out. My wife hates the FJR and won't ride on it. Luckily, I hadn't sold our Harley at the time and she likes riding on it, so I still have that one as well. I suspect in the coming year—if the economy...

CA - Lake Cachuma Area, Hwy 154, 8-6-08

Could've been me. I ride with a group every Wednesday (several Wings, a Wing trike, 2 BMWs, a Ducati, several Harleys, etc.—whoever shows up) and we were down that way. Or it might have been one of the other FJRs in the area. I know there are several, although I've never seen them on the road or...

    California Hwy 1 this weekend

We were down at the other end today. Rode from Santa Maria up to Gorda and back (lunch at Ragged Point). Wild temperature swings: low 55, high 90. Saw lots of BMWs, a few Hondas, a GSX or two, and an older Concours, but no other FJRs. I guess the other FJR riders in this area went elsewhere.

Why did you/they sell the FJR 1300?

I've had my '06 for 6 months, and it's now up for sale. Nothing wrong with it, it's a fine bike, just not for me.

    What's the 'Harley' appeal?

    Harley Sales: 2003 - 291,147 motorcycles 2004 - 217,289 2005 - 329,017 2006 - 349,146 2007 - 330,619 Judging from 2007, maybe now the fad has passed?

    Dealer Called Again

I was looking at Yamaha's loan terms and these easy-in loans really accelerate after 2 years. Interest jumps to from 12.99% all the way to 24.99%, depending on your credit rating, I'd guess. After 2 years at $149 (mostly interest), you would really be upside down with the bike, and looking at a...

    Sportster vs. FJR

I own an '05 Sortster and an '06 FJR and, not being a defender of any particular marque or model, I'll give you my opinion, sans all the supposed comedy. To your point above, I find the Sportster to be far more friendly to ride at slow speeds than the FJR. I intended to sell the Sportster when I...

    Almost Pulled the Trigger...

My experience in this regard is exactly the opposite. I also own a Sportster that I dumped significant $$$ into in order to make it fit me and my riding style/habits. My FJR, however, has been a different experience entirely. For me, the FJR is essentially a gas-and-go bike. To date on my '06...

    Something Loose?

If it's a rattle and not a clank (you mentioned checking for something rattling around in the glove box), check the windshield mechanism. Mine has a good bit of play in it and rattles going over sharp bumps.

To the group of HOG posers at the gas station in Monroe WA, Saturday.

I usually wear a pair of Tourmaster armored riding pants I've had for a while, but I've also got some chaps from my Harley days (I still own a Sportster) that I keep in one of the side cases in case I get caught out in the cold wearing just jeans. I agree with you: to hell with what anyone else...

To the group of HOG posers at the gas station in Monroe WA, Saturday.

Give it up. There are always those in any brand-specific motorcycle group (including this one) who think that there's is better, faster, whatever than what you own, or that they are better, faster, and more proficient riders than you. As always, there's an ass for every seat.

    G2 installation time

I concur: 10 minutes or so. A shop will probably quote you a half hour, which around here equals about $40, so it's worth doing yourself. Oh, and adjust the free play out of your throttle cable while you're at it.

Is the FJR the culmination of your dreams in a motorcycle?

I have to say no, adding that no other manufacturer makes the perfect bike either. Like all bikes, the FJR is a compromise. It's weather protection, power and smoothness make it a reasonably good touring bike, though not as comfortable or accomodating as a Wing, Ultra Glide, K 1200 LT, etc...

    CA Central Coast Gas Prices

Premium at $390.9 here today and rising, seemingly, by the hour. Also, if any of you are planning to run CA 1 between San Simeon and Big Sur this weekend, gas up before you go. A gallon of premium this morning in Gorda—the only gas stop on that strip of coast—was $5.45.9, and will probably be...

Gas prices can you feel it

Today here in Santa Maria it was $3.94 for premum (Mobil).

Bike Week + Low Attendance = Poor Economy

Money's tight and the motorcycle fad is officially over. The flooded used bike market is an excellent indicator. At the peak of the fad a couple of years ago, many folks dipped into their home equity or took out ridiculous loans to finance a fantasy. Now with that fantasy fulfilled, a great...

Where are all the ride reports??

And that's too arrogant by a half.
