    Taming the beast

I very definitely have this problem on my '06.... and I appreciate the creative effort at finding a fix. The nature of it is exascerbated on roads like the Blue Ridge Parkway and Deals Gap- tight 2nd and 3rd gear with a lot of on/off throttle action. Trying to get back on the throttle in 2nd...

    Taming the beast

I'm in the midst of running down this herky-jerky slow speed operation, myself. One mod that I have had success with is (don't laugh) larger grips! I put on the "American Touring" grips, which are considerably larger than the puny stock grips the bike came with- and it has made it far easier...

Feej sightings... Willville Biker camp, VA

Did Jeff have the SUPER bright headlights on his Weestrom??? One of the Stroms had aftermarket bulbs in- and I was trying to figure out if they were PIAA's or something else??? Even posted a question in the thread about BYOB over on ADVRider.Com Never found out who had those and what brand...

Feej sightings... Willville Biker camp, VA

Mystery solved- that was my FJR at the ADV BYOB at Willville. I got in late friday night after a drenching- and then was around all weekend. Sorry we didn't get a chance to hook up.... there was a lot of tire kicking and bench racing going on!~ I saw you roll in on the silver FJR on...

06 Handlebar Risers - Pics of Sitting Position

Unless you have VERY narrow shoulders, rotating the bars inward is going to cause most people hand numbness and potentially some pain between the shoulder blades. Ergonomically speaking, if your wrists are not perpendicular to your hands, you're gonna be prone to hand numbness. On most...

    '06 excessive driveline lash

Fine. I'll let the words "You need to learn" in his post speak for themselves, then.

    '06 excessive driveline lash

Offering up the idea that the FJR requires an entirely new set of skills compared to any other motorcycle in order to be ridden properly is not exactly an appropriate answer (or an accurate one) in a tech thread- would you agree? Proper technique for cornering frequently requires throttle off...

    '06 excessive driveline lash

This is NOT my first motorcycle... I've been riding road bikes for 25 years. Nothing about this Yamaha is unique enough to require the rider to relearn anything, and I didn't buy it for that purpose. Nor did I buy an AE. I know how to shift- both up and down thru the gears! The fact is that...

    '06 excessive driveline lash

No clue- how could this possibly have an effect on the driveline?

    '06 excessive driveline lash

Basically it's when you get back on the throttle after rolling off... and instead of a smooth transition from off throttle to on, you get an abrupt one that causes the trans (shaft) to "hit" or "whack" the driveline... not just spool up. There can be an audible sound, or a feeling thru the seat...

    '06 excessive driveline lash

mine"s right on 2.5"... I guess I should feel some relief from that??? So does that indicate fuel mapping may be my culprit? That's where I'm leaning at this point, but I haven't had a chance to try out the new lube in the final drive housing yet.

    '06 excessive driveline lash

"Poor man's field test for excessive drive line slop ---> Place a ruler on the ground, parallel to the motorcycle right at the tip of the side stand; put bikie in 1st gear (engine off); now slowly roll the bike back and forth until it hits the limits that it can roll; read the distance in...

    Rifle Windshield for 06

I don't like much about the stock shield on my '06! The clarity is fine, I suppose. I'd like more height and width- with as much range as possible without buffetting. I get helmet noise (Shoei X11) at the upper half of the range- right where I'd think I would have none!~ Tint is nice- medium...

    '06 excessive driveline lash

Well, I picked up my '06 last week in Ohio and rode home to Maryland the curvy way... and all was right with the world. (except for some loose steering head bearings  ) but now that the bike is getting some miles on it (2300 in 9 days- not bad)... I have developed an excessive...

06 A's are in the states

Which MD dealership- Ellicott City??? I'm wondering who's gonna have ANY experience maintaining these bikes once mine arrives. I'm doing a fly/buy/ride out of Ohio~ Would be interested in your experience with a local dealer though- I'm just outside Annapolis.

    Nova Scotia in July

Keep in mind that you now need a passport to cross into Canada~ A new rule that's just one more piece of evidence of how the world has changed. Great trip you've got planned- I'd like to put in a plug for Fundy NP on the way back down if you decide not to use the Cat in both directions. (Bar...

    Moto GP

I went last year- had a BLAST!!! I camped about 30 miles south at Arroyo Seco state park. General Admission tickets are all you need- the paddock is not even as good as a typical AMA event unless you have special access passes for the GP pits. The seating is fairly limited- and you probably...
