Looking for dsestination ideas for this weekend

How about Lynchburg, TN? If it's not too cold for the brain-bucket guys you could do a couple twisties up and down Monteagle Mt. along the way. And Highway 50 between Winchester and Lynchburg is fun.

    Fuel shortages?

Like El Toro, I live on the Cumberland Plateau, further south than him. There are still spotty shortages here, but at least one station always has gas. I made a trip to Knoxville last week and found the same situation. One station was out, but there was gas across the street. Gas stations...

    Road Snakes & Tires

I replaced my original Metzlers with Roadsmarts will in Colorado. I love them on the curves. They are a little less stable on the slab, but not too bad. I haven't noticed any difference with tar snakes.

    Motorcycle Personality Test

8 on moxie, 14 on zeal, -2 on pomp. R1 or GSXR. Anyone want to buy a slightly used FJR?

First Drop - Why don't I feel bad?

My experience is similar. My son is in Colorado with my R1150R and a couple weeks ago he called to tell me dumped it on a dirt road mountain pass. I was just glad that he's OK and that he fessed up. I haven't seen the bike yet but he said the damage isn't too bad. Hell, he's goes to Parris...

    AE????????

I bought my new 2006 AE about 3 months ago. Same story as others - it was sitting at the dealer's and they couldn't move it. I got a great deal on it. It took almost no time to get used to it. I've now put about 5k miles on it and love the bike. Really, the automatic shifter isn't even a...

    JC Whitney Trunk

Thanks, Dave. I'll give you a call when I get to Gunnison. I should get there on Aug 31, but that's subject to change.

    JC Whitney Trunk

Thanks. I ordered the trunk and will also order either the Yammi or GIVI mount, whichever is cheaper. Like I said, my bro-in-law has the JCW bag on his Vstrom. His wife has a Givi on her Ninja. They look very similar. I didn't look that close, but will compare next month when I'm back in...

    JC Whitney Trunk

I'm looking at the JC Whitney trunk for my 06 AE. My bro-in-law has one on his Vstrom and it looks pretty good for the price. Can someone who's used one of these tell me which mounting plate you used? Will the JCW universal work, or did you go with the GIVI plate or something else?

    PCIII saves the day

I'm running the stock 01 map. I tried the calculated smoothness map that somebody posted but the bike did not run well, so I went back to stock. I haven't yet removed the slack - thanks for the suggestion. I'll give that a go when I'm reunited with the bike. I had to leave it in Gunnison so...

    PCIII saves the day

I agree that the PCIII made a big difference on my 06AE. I also have the G2. But I still get a very jerky response at low speeds (1st gear). Is there a fix for that?

    On to NAFO...

MNFJR05 - I'm in Gunnison on vacation, and did the same Utah ride a couple days ago. I'll PM you - if you pass through Gunnison on your way to Golden maybe we can meet up.

Dynojet Power Commander (PCIII) Group Buy

I got mine installed yesterday. It's made a noticeable difference with the stock map, now I need to try some of the others. Thanks for the GB!

    Throttlemeister Cruise Control

I'm one of those freekin weirdos (and damn proud of it!!). It works well for me, once adjusted properly. And the bar-end weights have reduced vibration in the grips.

This is getting a little old

Thanks for sharing, and glad that you more or less OK. Stories like these are good reminders for all of us.

    Hitting to close to home

Very sad indeed. Last weekend I was on a ride with my 15-year old son as a passenger. While on a state 4-lane, a women in a buick I was passing suddenly decided to shift lanes. She would have slammed right into me if I hadn't braked and let her get in front. When I pulled up next to...

    First Farkle

I used WD-40 to get it off, then cleaned the inside and used soapy water to get it back on. Last time I replaced a grip on a motorcycle I used hairspray to get it on but didn't have any around.

    First Farkle

Well, I finally got around to installing the G2 Throttle Tube yesterday. I don't have a compressor so I used the small screwdriver-squirt WD-40-keep working it method of removing the grip. It's a 4-handed operation, so Mrs. Rockhead helped. The whole thing took about 1/2 hour, plus a 2-hour...
