    Tar snakes west of Custer

There is a discussion going on in another thread about "tar snakes" or "road tar snakes"---the sealant that patches cracks in pavement, and how it can be dangerous or slippery for bikes. A warning....when you are at CFO, you should know there is a section of Highway 16 about 10 miles west of...

    Has anyone else tried Chrome?

I've been using it last night and today. For a Beta release, it seems pretty damn squared away. I see a couple of things I'd like for them to change, but there will no doubt be many changes when it goes to Version 1.0, 1.1, etc. For me, it uses far less memory than Firefox.

    FJRF003.0: Ignition Failures on FJRs

Wow, Fred, thanks for summarizing this data.

    SPOT to SPOT Intercept Attempt

Pretty cool. I think you've invented a new game! Now we need a thread where people who are on the road can post their SPOT links and challenge riders to intercept them.

Don't see Battery Voltage displayed on my FJR.

My Garmin 378 GPS receiver also will display voltage... one of the few things I like about the 378, other than the fact that it will also display Nexrad radar from XM radio.

    Traveling To and From CFO

I have never been all the way across SD on US 18, but I'm curious what it's like. Try it and let us know. :)

    Hydration bladder

Nasty stuff in hydration systems can make you very sick. I wrote about a study that was done on the drinking systems of wildland firefighters on my blog. Here's an excerpt: REI also sells cleaning supplies for Camelbaks.

    Liability Form?

A year ago I went to a training session about leading group rides put on by a Harley owners organization. They have weekly group rides that are highly organized. They leave from a Harley dealership, ride together to a restaurant, then return to the dealership. (I felt like a spy, but I wanted...

    Riding and Crashing and Learning

Wow. Glad you're going to be OK. Judging from the damage to the bike, it must have been quite a spill. That torn up rear wheel is impressive. Thanks for sharing the experience.

    opening new business

Your web site looks very polished and professional. Good job. When I worked for the federal government in the late '90s I wrote several Continuity of Operations Plans for a federal agency in D.C. and other areas. I think that is basically the same thing that you are doing, making a plan for...

Don't forget to register for CFO--

We have received registrations from 13 people, but 20 rooms have been reserved under our group at the motel. And only 10 have paid the registration fee. So, please register and pay the fee if you have not already. HERE is the link to register. HERE is the link to pay.

    Change in agenda for CFO

Uh..... yeah! The Bavarian Inn still has some rooms left, but since it is after August 11, they are no longer obligated to rent them to us at the discounted rate. It won't hurt to ask, though. Tell them you are with the "FJR Owners Group".

    Dining Opportunities At CFO

You're absolutely right, and it's only 14 miles north of Custer. They have great desserts too. When I have time, I'll put together some dining suggestions like this from other towns around the Black Hills. Feel free to throw in your 2-cents worth here.

New Cabela's store in Rapid City

Another reason to come to CFO is to check out the new Cabella's store in Rapid City that opened a couple of weeks ago. It is on the east side of Rapid City, on the north side of I. 90 near exit #61. I was there a few days ago and it is stunning.... the size of it and the inventory and the...

    Ringling, MT

Thanks for the writeup and photos. It brought back fond memories of when I enjoyed riding through there last summer when I was doing some work at Yellowstone. One afternoon I made a big 320-mile loop, riding down from Yellowstone then going up 85 through Ringling, to White Sulphur Springs...

    Sponsors

I just discovered this thread. We have plenty of swag for CFO, and don't need any more. About the letter to potential sponsors and donors...Someone (from EOM?) sent Devanator a letter a couple of weeks ago and I took some ideas from it and wrote a letter of my own. I wrote this on August 10...
