    Throttlemeister & temps

It was 34 when I left for work this morning, but it was a balmy 37 when I got there. While letting the bike warm up (it has to sleep under a cover outside unfortunately), I gave my Throttlemeister a gentle spin to make sure it was completely disengaged. It just kept spinning without hitting a...

FJR Review in Super Bike Magazine

Maybe we could flip this around to unpropter it: Some things are superior. The AE is a superior thing. Superior things often initially fail to gain acceptance. The AE is a superior thing that has failed to gain acceptance, therefore it must be new.

    Fans not working?

I usually don't have fans until I hit the 7th bar: at that point I'm the funniest person on the planet & everything is hilarious.

FJR Review in Super Bike Magazine

Well, can't we claim that the AE is best paddle-shift ST bike in the solar system (or known-universe depending on your tastes for hyperbole)? No one could call us liars. I'm waiting for a TCSS (telekinetically controlled shifting system: just think "Warp 9" and "Make it so").

Has anyone installed Back Off Module

I have Garauld's luggage rack with the adapter plate for the six inch LED light bar (https://www.signaldynamics.com/products/LightBars/ulb.asp). I have the Backoff unit wired to this light bar so that I have both solid & flashing brake indicators. Installation was relatively painless & I...

    MPG

Low to mid 40s around town, near 50 at constant cruising speeds (not far north of the posted 70 limit) on the highway. Last night's commute of 70 miles (one-up with satchel, fiddled with the windshield height to maximize mpg, rear tire at 43 psi and front at 39.5) saw 52 mpg at 67-68 mph. My...

'08 FJR to have better shifting transmission

Excellent news & I'm happy that Yamaha has addressed the oil supply issue. For those who have the older models, particularly the '07, what steps can they take (beyond plate soaking) to increase oil delivery? Would a "slipperier" oil (full synthetic) allow more to reach the plates? Does oil...

    Another GPS Question

I purchased a refurbed model for half the price of a new Garmin of the same model and have been perfectly happy with it & have had no issues.

    Son of a %$$@ Kickstand!

Got me one of these since there is soft asphalt in my parking lot & I've been known to frequent places that have only sand/dirt/gravel/grass parking spaces (yes, I visit the flea & farmer's market in Waldo; where's Waldo you ask? It's in FL). Anyhoo, for $2 I'm forced by the brightly colored...

    LD Winter riding

I did a trip last year around this time on a V-Max with a Memphis Shades windshield. Everything but my torso was exposed to temps in the 40s (and at 70-75 mph, you have to factor wind chill, too). I tried some of those chemical hand warmers that hunters & backpackers use ($2 at Walmart) on...

    PR2 PSI?

For those who've switched to the Pilot Road 2 skins: What tire pressures are you running? Just got 'em yesterday ($300 installed including tax!) and was going to run 42 rear, 39 front as I did with the Metz's, but thought I would ask to see what kind of experiences others have had. Given, it's...

    Fog free helmet needed

+1 on the Fog City shields.

    Clutch not disengaging

Granted, but they have been far slower to respond to this issue (compared to the altitude surging issue). I personally did not appreciate the mechanics at a certified (and certifiable) Yamaha dealership and then a Yamaha customer service representative trying to blame me for the fried plates in...

    Spline grease alternative

I used this Amsoil grease on my splines at 600 miles and nothing bad/noticeable has occurred yet. Getting new skins in the near future, so we'll see how the splines looks after 8k with the Amsoil grease.

    Biketoberfest is almost upon us...

The weather isn't scaring me away, but unfortunately tomorrow isn't looking real likely for me. Sigh. I really wanted to meet you folks, eat some seafood, and talk bikes & trips. If I don't make it, I hope everyone has a great time & safe travels. -Andrew

    Letter of appreciation to Yamaha

This is an excellent idea! Thank you for starting the thread and inviting folks to contribute to the good will between owners and Yamaha.

    Mixing Oil Grades OK?

Holy Crapsickles, Batman! Won't that cut into their profit (scaring as many as possible into believing that it's 20-40 or bust--as in busted engine)? What if it still says 20-40 in my owner's manual? Oh, the humanity of it all.

    Florida's Gulf Coast

Nice pics!!!! Congrats on the rewarding trip. I did a two-up camping trip from Gainesville to St. Joe Peninsula State Park in August, and it was one of the prettiest rides I've ever experienced in FL.
