From a recent MCN article:

"Many early examples of Yamaha's stacked transmissions had inferior shift quality, because the normal splash lubrication scheme was inadequate to properly lube the upper components. A dedicated oil line for the upper shafts was the answer, something that's promised as a fix for the 2008 FJR we are told. If it works, we'll have one less quibble with the FJR.

From the service manual it appears that the FJR has oil piped to these transmission shafts. But maybe they're increasing the flow rate. Who knows?

Excellent news & I'm happy that Yamaha has addressed the oil supply issue. For those who have the older models, particularly the '07, what steps can they take (beyond plate soaking) to increase oil delivery? Would a "slipperier" oil (full synthetic) allow more to reach the plates? Does oil pressure at that point in the system make any difference to the "spray" pattern? Is it worth risking seals to run a little--and I mean a little--more oil in the bike?
