Lucky miss! Here in the South, most deer activity in the Spring and Summer is at night, so it's very dangerous to ride after dark in Oklahoma. Also, there's the risk at night for opossum, raccoon, armadillo, coyote, and the occasional fox and cougar. There all out to commit suicide, it seems.

Know exactly what you mean. I get that feeling when I go out on early daylight (like Sunday morning), and have a smooth 4-lane all to myself. I know Smokey is curled-up somewhere, and I blow out the soot at 100+. The smell of new-mown alfalfa at speed is most exhilerating to this old country boy.

I cleaned the areas with alcohol before applying, and they stick real good. If you get sloppy when attaching the bags, you can easily scrape the paint without them.

Most issues discussed here have more to do with rider comfort than passenger comfort. You need to make sure you are at peace with the handlebar height/angle, and foot position, and windshield height. Then address the saddles, as the stockers are too soft for most human *****. Have fun! Phil

Pinhead's map indicates that the road west out of Creede is actually paved, which I'm glad to see. It's been many years since I was there trout fishing, but it was a narrow gravel road back then! It's a beautiful area.

I'm going your way from east Oklahoma, but not til July 1. We're using the second option mentioned by 7X, thru Cody and Yellowstone Park. Then a loop thru B.C. and down Highway 1 before NAFO. Wishing you safe riding, and good weather.

You will find a goodly amount of metal shavings wallowing around in the oil, and attached to the magnetic drain plug. But you haven't put enough miles on it to do any damage. Change it a second time in another thousand miles.

Also, those little black pins...there is a trick, just poke the center in about 1/4" and then you can pull them out by the collar...Don't ask how many I had to replace before I figured that out... :glare: Thanks for that info, as I've been sort of ripping them out, guts-first.
