    3M Scotchgard protective film

Have someone install it for you, it is an art to do it properly without stuffing the film up. Had my pristine 07 I bought in 2010 done, a bit expensive but well worth it if you plane to keep the bike. No more sandblasted paintwork.

    Ambient air temp sensor location?

Behind the rhs headlight panel. It looks like a ring connector that isn't connected to anything, hangs in free air.

    Guage recommendation

The FJR uses the #3 cylinder as the reference cylinder. On the Gen1 and 2, then #1 TB (or where the painter dot is) on the newer servo throttle bodies.

FJR frame not an electrical conductor

If you every worked on some older bike you would realize. As mentioned above, it help stops galvanic corrosion that greatly increases when current is passes through metals. No more bashing away on a impact driver trying to remove bolts and engine casing screws.

Help - Rider on the Road - 07 Gen 2 FJR with 23" Rifle Windshield - Windshield "Flex or Flop"

My 06 moved quite a bit from new, my 07 I bought in 2010 was far tighter. Think it's normal. I trailered a project FJR 700 kms back home and noticed it's windscreen moved quite a bit from the turbulence as well.

    ABS issue

Bummer, Did you use the Yamaha lead or a jumper wire / alligator clips and definitely bridged out the Black/White and Sky Blue wires within the 4 wire terminal block ? If the ABS ECU doesn't go into diagnostic mode, it would tend to suggest that it's crook. I've had 2 mates who have been...

    ABS issue

Remember you need the jumper / come test lead to access the ABS diagnostics. It's not a ECU function. A good link

    gps help

I did a backup the entire file system on mine when I first bought it. Have a copy of it on one of many old hard drives. Problem is that it's Australian maps & registered life time maps to me. Maybe find them or someone might help you on Zumo Forums

    Lemon Pledge and your plastics

I have a can of Lemon Pledge somewhere, not common in my local shops. Normally use Mr Sheen on everything, it's a lot like plexus only cheaper.

    '06 won't start

Could well be. My mates Gen 1 had exactly the same issue. Turned out to be a clogged fuel valve on the emissions prior to the canister. It happened to be a Californian import into Australia. Also make sure the right screws go back into the proper locations on the fuel cap ring. Easy to...

    Possible TPS issue?

Have you run any diagnostics ?

    engine oil colour

Yes on the cooler, no on the thermostat. It uses a heat exchange unit incorporated with the normal coolant circuit. But it doesn't have a dedicated "radiator"

New guy with lots of questions, plus "How do you ride this thing"

You can also go to Yamaha USA and download the owners manual from the site if the bike didn't come with it, lots of nice information in it if you care to read it. https://www.yamahaownershandbook.com.au/index.php

Engine cough when bike is cold ?

Set HOT fast idle to 1100 RPM, COLD idle is about 1400. 2 separate screws and may effect each other. The cold, fast, screw is under the throttle bodies, very awkward to access a long 16" screwdriver The normal fast idle is under the RHS fairing vent panel. Try a site specific google search...

New guy with lots of questions, plus "How do you ride this thing"

Find a new dealer then go buy a service manual, Welcome to the Forum. All the information you will ever need is here, all the matter of searching. You do NOT need a computer to access any ABS or ECU error or diagnostic codes. It is NOT a CAN system, thank God lol lol There is a test lead or...

    Cop down under.

We had the first Gen3 bikes in Queensland That policeman was already in trouble and under investigation. Has had several internal black marks and transfers. He's stood down now from memory.

    Power Commander V w/Autotune Discussion

I found that the LCD200 was better t read in real time, far better than my little 10" netbook stuck in a tank bag. Was only the size of a cigarette packet and only had a basic display programed, eg RPM, target AF , A:F & throttle position. I really needed a way to show Mr Yamaha here what was...
