My wife went down.....in a bad way!

Update: Susan appreciates all the responses; she told me to tell everybody thanks! First time I've seen her laugh since the incident! :clapping: She especially liked the ideas about new jewelry...um, thanks... I think! Yeah, she has had her eye on a new HJC carbon fiber helmet...I'm sure...

My wife went down.....in a bad way!

SO, my wife and I decided to take off for a little 3 day trip to the hill country, each on our own bikes. (gotta take advantage of the time, as our 9 year old was visiting his big sister on spring break) We had booked a room in a bed & breakfast in Fredricksburg, about 350 miles west. We took...

    My son needs a helmet

My 9 year old son just recently outgrew an HJC CL-14Y (Y designation referring to 'youth') helmet. (It is a true street helmet, i.e. not motocross style). Being a "youth' helmet, it has a proportionately downsized shell; HJC offered it S/M/L size; we purchased it when he was ~ 7 1/2 yrs old, got...

Fun With Physics--A-Bombs, Black Holes, and Hawking

Tell your son if I feel my atoms being pulled apart by the black hole created by his super collider, I'm really gonna be pissed! :dribble: Oh, maybe they could kinda fire it up near the IRS? Cool story, BTW.

Tightening torque -- engine oil & drive oil

-Better be careful; there have been numerous reports of owners stripping the threads torquing up the drain bolt to the 'specified' 31 ft lbs. Do a search, read for yourself. I put on a new crush washer & tighten it until I feel it deform; many others just use a plain copper gasket and snug it up.

Our brother Scab needs some good kharma

-now when you hear some female whine about "you can't understand just how painful child birth is!" You can legitimately say :****: Get better...soon.

Most Nervous Day for the FJR Yet

You were lucky to pull that off, IMO. Your Armada came with what? A class III hitch? IIRC the max tongue wt on a class III is 500 lbs.; FJR w/fluids is ~ 610? lbs. I can imagine how it affected handling also....

Site Distance vs Corner Entry Speed

Many valid points here...if I was forced to pick one, it would be sight distance, but I would never only use that. Another point: Speed limit signs in turns..no apparent 'standard' (region to region, if you will) that I've ever seen. Most are conservative, a few are surprisingly accurate. Like...

    Servicing drive shaft...

+1 w/Radman. Hopefully your driveshaft doesn't look like my axle did the first time I removed it: Suffice to say I had a hard time getting it out....(the driveshaft, OTOH, looked great, came right out).

    Chernobyl

Well, you all just wrong...I just happen to know that they even do organized rides through there; in fact, here's the guy that leads the group:

    Over 20 yrs. without one!

Okay, I'm curious now...what does it say on the citation? "No visor", "No eye protection" ? If so, (regardless) I'd show up in court, with the helmet in hand; the judge could see that the helmet does in fact have a visor. If the cop shows up and tells his side, I'd tell the judge the visor...

    Uhhh...I need one of these

Let's see...add some black paint and chrome, glue on some fins, add an 'officially licensed' H-D bar & shield logo, retail it for $1500 and I'm sure it would be a sales hit! :glare:

    mission complete

Heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Similar situation for me, lost my dad at 56, heart attack while he slept. He retired early, then gained a bunch of weight, got hypertension....anyway, he was a vet also. I would have liked to have met your dad just to shake his hand and thank him...

    Our Son Andy

Rog/deb We'll keep positive thoughts for your son and family down here in Texas; once the docs get his glucose & blood Ph back to a normal range, hopefully he'll bounce back. Hang in there.
