Why do you think my FJR's transmission failed?

I don't know if I'd call the FJR transmission a weak point but considering how major a component it is, it does seem (to me) there's been a surprising number of failures. Maybe also surprising, I think I can recall quite a few more transmission failures then FJR rear drive failures.

    Driving while high?

I've noticed the smell of burning "herb" several times in Colorado while out and about on the FJR, but that was before the law was passed. Don't recall any occurrences since and thinking folks have moved to vaporizers.

    Shifting Clunks (1st and 2nd)

Nope, not a Gen III thing. My '07 only does the "kerchunch" about 25% of the time, and I've not figured out what causes it.

    2015 FJR1300 Information Released!

I noticed the "wet weight" is the same as past Gen III models as well. Removing a the bags would make a nice reduction in curb weight. I can't believe Yamaha would have overlooked that.

    2008 ECU swap question

I knew I could get voltage through diAG and had checked it many times while engine off, but I can't recall that I ever monitored while engaging the starter. It was also before I learned (via an ionbeam post thank you very much) that below 9 volts was likely in the trouble zone, so even if I had...

    2008 ECU swap question

Your scenario sounds almost exactly the same as problems I had with my '07. In frustration I swapped to an '08 ECU which made no change. I later discovered the voltage during startup was dropping to around 8.5 volts. I have since replaced battery and problem has not returned (and yeah...

My tire wore down on one side more than the other

Dude! Everyone knows you're supposed to alternate the side you carry the keg to even out the wear!

Idaho Moto Cop Blitzes Another Biker

It's a special Honda RT 1300 and sold only to police departments. It's got a cop motor, it's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks.

Idaho Moto Cop Blitzes Another Biker

It's no optical illusion, the cop was hauling! Cruiser-dude was doing about 60 when passed by the cop and went up to 65 just after being passed, probably just due to cop's wake! I'm guessing cop was doing at least 80mph. Here's better shot of cruiser's speedo....

Hobby - Gun Stock Refinishing a few examples

And I take it the Tung Oil resists most gun/barrel cleaners? Anything to watch out for there?

    States with the Rudest Drivers

Talk about rude, running traffic lights waaaaaaay into the red had become a sport in Colorado!

2007 FJR1300A Intermittently Stalling at Idle or throttle release

Dead weight, totally agree! But the ECU doesn't "know" that PAIR has been removed, for example the ECU is still attempting to trigger the PAIR solenoid. There are a couple simple ways to test basic O2 function but they have some caveats: Remove sensor and use a propane torch to heat sensor...

Why you should ride the FJR in the dirt

Crikey! You call that dirt? Many of the roads in Colorado aren't that smooth or hard packed!

2007 FJR1300A Intermittently Stalling at Idle or throttle release

I don't think the O2 sensor is used at idle, or at least below about 1800 RPM. During my troubleshooting I also looked at PAIR operation and on my '07 it was typically open, allowing air into the exhaust, below about 1800 RPM. There's no way a narrow band O2 sensor can compensate for unmetered...

2007 FJR1300A Intermittently Stalling at Idle or throttle release

I think pulling the PCIII is a good start at "baselining" the system to reduce as many variables as possible. I hate to admit I've gone over to the "It's the battery" crowd, but I had a weird problem on my '07 that sounds similar and was battery related. In my case I was experiencing constant...
