    Shaft Servicing Duration

2004 FJR went 226k miles before crash. Serviced U-joint once early on probably around 30k miles. Didn't actually service the U-joint, but the splines on the transmission output shaft. 2004 FJR with 212k miles. Never serviced. No problems. 2009 FJR with 148k miles. Never serviced. No...

    Hand Guards for 2022

A popular choice are Suzuki V-Strom guards. A search should bring up some old threads about what you need to do it.

    Gen 2 Givi Trunk mounting?

2006 - 2023 rear ends are identical when it comes to the rear subframe and mounting seats and racks. The *only* difference is the new LED taillight assembly that started in 2016. As posted above, get the Givi SR357 rack. Or, the Shad equivalent for a Shad topcase. Or, the Yamaha replacement...

    AIS- Oily mess

Overthinking this? Every PAIR system I have pulled off several FJRs looks like this to some degree. Why? Who knows. Remove the PAIR system then ride more, stress less is my advice. Run some RingFree/Techron/Seafoam in the gas for a while. I had one higher mile FJR that sat for a long...

    Going to the Dark Side

Interesting. At that size, isn't your rear lower than with the moto tire? And speedometer error increased? Have you ever tried the 205/50? Because with about 250k miles on that size I have no issues with the handling. Some folks just don't like the difference of a car tire.

    Found Saddlebag lock

Those screws are supposed to have blue loctite on them. Dealer prep instructions for new FJR specify to do that. But of course, far too many dealers don't bother. It's one of the first things I do on any new FJR I acquire.

    Side Case Protection

I've always put 3M clear protection film on the sidebags before I scratched them up. Silly boy.

    Check Engine Light

To my thinking, running without only the cans off should not trip the O2 sensor. But, what do I know. This whole OBD thing is new to me. It took me a while, but I finally figured out what tripped my CEL light and gave me three error codes (All kind of weird ones): My habit (bad?) of turning...

Sold 2003 Gen 1 For Sale bump with lower price

A few things: I think the market is slow right now. Your FJR is old. Mileage..... meh. Not high for the year, but look what you are competing against. Plenty '04/'05 FJRs out there with less than 40k, 30k miles. At new price of $3,200. Not a bad deal. I think that should attract some...

    Shaft Servicing Duration

What the heck do you mean by servicing the shaft???? Yamaha call for replacing the final drive fluid every 16k miles. That's it.

    Check Engine Light

Gen III+ FJRs, so 2016+ went to OBDII system. So you need an OBDII adapter and reader to reset the CEL and read whatever error codes there are. It won't reset itself. After years of owning earlier FJRs where you can access the diagnostic system through the dash readout I had to go through...

    2004 fjr abs

Ack! NOT grey. Beautiful Cerulean Silver! I've had several and have put over 400,000 miles the '04 FJRs. Great vintage! Congrats! But why didn't you listen to your cousin sooner?

    Fuel Tank Capacity

I just realized you may not be familiar with the Gen III+? Besides the 'F' trip meter that begins at zero and counts up when virtual reserve is hit like Gen I and Gen II FJRs, the Gen III+ additionally has a 'Range' reading. It is useless. The virtual reserve and count up meter starts when...

    Fuel Tank Capacity

While I too like the 'count up' display, an accurate 'Range', or 'Distance To Empty' display would be more useful. The 'Distance To Empty' display on my BMW R1200GSA is very accurate. But shape of the tank probably has something to do with that. FJR's flat tank on the bottom does not lend...

    Fuel Tank Capacity

Yamaha lists a 1.3 gallon reserve so that is how much fuel is left when the last bar starts blinking and the 'F' mileage counter starts. Allegedly. I find it to be fairly accurate but you have to be steady-state cruising. Aggressive riding with slowing and accelerating and even steadily going...
