    9 day trip from NY

When I head out for a ride I seldom plan very far ahead (unless I have a specific destination in mind). I pack maps of every state I 'might' wander into, AAA Tourbooks of states that I want to do some serious meandering about in and my GPS. Unless you are driven to do some personal milestones...

28 years of riding and I finally crashed...

Get well Mike! Thankfully it wasn't anything worse. Just noticed your last post: "I just bought that Tourmaster Centurion suit, and I'm very happy with it. But if something happens to it, I'll take a look at the motorport "Stuff". " I was wearing that Motorport "stuff" when I was rearended a...

    Do not buy from Motorcyclecloseouts

I wouldn't be concerned at all. My 7 year old Arai (7 years that I owned it, I have no idea what the mfr date was) did just fine when I landed on my head a few months ago. From what I have read there is concern that the 'foam' liner will compress with use and be less able to absorb the forces...

    Nice ride in the Berkshires

This may be a good weekend for a run to Marcus - then up 7  I used to do this almost every weekend. Breakfast at the Dairy, photograph bikes & bikers (https://molaver.org/md1.htm) and then head north on 7. There are a ton of really nice roads off 7 - in Kent there is 341 you can...

Smart *** old lady backes up into me !

That's the best advice to do first - the mf'er that hit me a couple of months ago at first told the cop she didin't hit me. I was long gone in the ambulance but the cop showed her the damage on her bumper, then she admitted it (she later filed an 'ammended' accident report saying she 'did't...

    Nice ride in the Berkshires

Just got back from a quick jaunt up RT 8 (from Connecticut) to RT 20 to Pittsfield and back. Every time I ride over the border on RT 8 I get reminded how nice a ride that road is. My company has branches in Pittsfield & Torrington so made the ride to the two of them this morning. Very light...

    Bag Painted Like New

+1 on that when I tipped mine over in the basement the Givi top case & right bag were both scratched. As the bike was pretty much brand new I took them both to a body shop I (unfortunately) know well. He repainted them both to match the bike - black - came out perfectly for about $200.

    M/C Traveling Bags and Luggage

I too have accumulated a large assortment of bags - most are now resting comfortably on a garage shelf. I try to pack light whenever I tour and the Givi top case & two side bags are usually enough room. However whenever I pack my photography gear everything changes. I use this T-bag for those...

Did The Dragon And The Skyway This Weekend

Good for you! its a great ride, especially the 1st run :) I remember the first time we rode the Dragon - spent 4-5 hours going back & forth on it :yahoo: it never gets old!

    Painting Oil Filters

I did the same thing - I bought a load of Purolator (Blue) and painted them flat black - Rustoleum. So far no one has complained

    New Best Friend - Njst

So I had to scoot down to Harrisburg PA on Tuesday for a Wednesday meeting - its about 240 miles, 4 hours of superslab. The weather had been pretty cool around here in the evening so I didn't think my Joe Rocket mesh jacket was the right choice (still waiting for my Cycleport replacement from...

    Uneffingbelievable!

Sorry to hear of your misfortune Yooper :( When I park anywhere that might even look a little like an incline down I use the kickstand to stop the bike while in gear. When I let the clutch out I know its in gear and one less headache to worry about.

    75 years of the BRP

Thanks for posting! Skyline Drive / Blue Ridge Parkway remain some of my favorite rides. Twenty Five + years ago we made our first ride down the Parkway. There have been many since then. There are some great roads off the Parkway if the low speed limit / lack of twisties get boring. If you are...

    solo rider

I ride solo all of the time. For the riding I like to do - LD rides >6000 miles and hitting the backroads of the wherever I go - the fjr is a good choice for me. What kind of riding do you like? My last bike was a GL1800 and I did some serious LD riding on it. It had almost 150K miles on it...

    Where purchase mercury?

There is another source you could probably get some for free. Mercury thermostats are pretty much illegal in most (all?) states to sell. As a previos poster mentioned it is definately a hazmat issue - in any amount. Heating contractors routinely remove the old mercury thermostats when they...

    Accessory advice?

assuming you already have good rain gear, I would suggest layered clothing for the temps you are bound to run into. October in Maine certainly is going to see 40 (and below) nightime temps. A couple of shirts & sweatshirt that will fit under your raingear (makes a good windbreaker in cold wx)...
