I'm betting it's another V-Twin. Because that's what the American motorcycle market needs right now, is another undersquare, low revving, air cooled V-Twin. We don't have enough examples of those.

To hold up the back end of the bike for suspension upgrade/lubrication I used jack stands under the muffler brackets after removing the mufflers.

Measure the o-ring groove diameter and width and buy the appropriate sized Viton o-rings from McMaster-Carr. You may want to buy a few different sizes to figure out which ones work best.

I'm wondering if everyday schmucks can order a 2017 FJR1300P. Those are still A models, and if you're planning on painting it anyway because you're not a fan of white, you can eBay the lights and flashers to get some money back, etc. etc. How much are they compared to the showroom models?

Preload is good! It makes a noticeable difference as yas have noticed. If, on the other hand you don't preload the shifter and stab it into the next higher gear forcefully (clutch or no clutch), most times the dogs and pockets line up AOK, but occasionally...sometimes they don't. And when...

Preload! I also split my cases twice for 2nd gear.

If I had to guess I'd say the cheapest fix for Yamaha would be to redesign the ignition switch and do recall campaign, unless they can change the firmware on the ECU, which would be a new development for FJRs.
