    2005 Spinning, not starting

Jealousy. Hell hath no fury like a scorned FJR.

    Is FJR a good commuter?

Commuted with my '06 daily when I lived in Southern California. Lane splitting cut my commute in half. Fairly nimble, iron anvil reliable, and pretty fuel efficient, I would definitely recommend it as a commuter bike.

    Pulled the trigger on a 2006 FJR1300

Look at your cam chain tensioner and see if it has a blue or green dot on it. If not, replace it. Doesn't have to be done immediately, particularly if it's not making any timing chain noise, but there have been a couple different revisions over the years. The original edition CCT plunger...

    RAM Mount Ball Slip

The rubber of the RAM ball also compresses some, so if you tighten the **** out of it originally, you'll find you can tighten it a little more a day or two later. After that, it seems to hold fine, at least for me and my Note 4 10,000 maH brick phone.

    Barbecued FJR

Hmm, exhaust is probably still good up to the mufflers at least; maybe the chrome of the mufflers will clean up, but probably not. The fuel tank is probably a good candidate for someone's frankentank project...maybe the brake rotors are still ok along with some of the internal engine...

Is there any solution for leg roasting heat on an 08?

Here's some other choices: - Play with the vents on the side fairings. Maybe opening them up will redirect the air away from your legs. FWIW, they're usually opened in the winter to PUT heat on your legs, but there's been much debate on that topic on this forum. I'm on the open for heat...

    Shifting Recommendations

None. But I also have yet to hear of a story where Yamaha (or any other bike manufacturer for that matter) were willing to take on a split case transmission repair as a warranty claim. A lawyer could in theory point to the manual and ask "Did you shift this way?" while you're under oath should...

    Shifting Recommendations

You're also less likely to futz up the transmission forks & dogs shifting at the owners manual's prescribed points. Makes it easy for them to turn down a warranty claim.

    grumpypoos Gen 1 transmission repair

Pics, we've seen AE shift drums before (Thanks Jamesk!) And Walt's right, I forgot about that Gen 1 to Gen 2 difference on Gear #33. Everything else should be the same though. In fact, why don't YOU show US the difference between a Gen 1 #33 and a Gen 2 #33....

    grumpypoos Gen 1 transmission repair

IIRC the gear dogs on the input shaft were updated in '08 with more dogs. Shouldn't be an issue if you swap in the entire '08 input shaft assembly. Also, IIRC, the layshaft assembly is exactly the same from 2003-2015, but check the part numbers on the parts fiche to verify I'm not blowing smoke.

    grumpypoos Gen 1 transmission repair

When you pull on the coolant tube on the top of the head to take it off, Make sure you pull it straight out of the bores. Once again, DAMHIK.

    Possible transmission problems or?

I was able to pull my engine without removing the front end. Remove the front fender or else the exhaust studs may scratch the **** out of it. DAMHIK.

    Possible transmission problems or?

You didn't really think they were gonna honor the warranty, did you? Sorry about the **** luck, but at least you're somewhat enthused about doing it yourself. I hope you get your money back for the warranty; it should cost about half of that for the parts you'll need. Write a ****** Yelp...

    Possible transmission problems or?

I wouldn't buy anything until I had the motor split open in front of me and had inspected the parts. You won't know what you need until you put eyes on it.

    Possible transmission problems or?

Here's my '06 back when it would pop out of 2nd under hard accel before I fixed it. Listen closely at the 11 second mark: FWIW, if you do decide to repair the transmission yourself, all of the work you were planning on doing (valve shimming, CCT replacement) are CONSIDERABLY easier with the...

2016 Is Official 6-spd, Slipper, LEDs, Analog Tach, Price

Here's an idea...will someone bring a fish scale to a show so we can put a number behind the clutch pull force?

2016 Is Official 6-spd, Slipper, LEDs, Analog Tach, Price

Another ancillary benefit of doing this is there's now a lighter ring for the shift fork to move, as opposed to a whole gear on a spline. That should mean that it will be easier shifting. Dogs and pockets cast on the side of gears probably work great for 600cc-700cc bikes, providing nice...

2016 Is Official 6-spd, Slipper, LEDs, Analog Tach, Price

****. That's gonna get real spendy if you run into a trans issue. Let's hope it's just a preliminary exploded view, and they're running behind on updating the drawing(s). THAT would convince me of the 2016 model year being a Gen IV, if they made engine casting/machining changes to accommodate...
