Lesson #17 for Fifty-Something, New FJR Owners with Bad Backs

It is easier if you weigh upwards of 220.I only weigh 180 and almost popped my knee out. Try a 190 tire and see if that helps. No offense to the meat and potato eaters.

Appropriate to counsel other riders how to dress appropriately?

It is never appropriate to go up to a stranger and start lecturing them on proper riding attire, never. Do you think they give a rip what you think, good intentions and all? Friends. coworkers, and family, well that is a different story. As others have said, lead by example. When I ride in a...

    General Dislikes

Depending on your type of riding will determine what things we complain about. I am not a long distance rider, and frankly have zero interest in seeing the same stretch of straight road for miles and miles. As a former sport bike rider, I find the FJR a real good compromise. My only slight...

    End of the FJR?

I feel it usually exiting a spirited corner when I want to roll on the throttle as I apex. And yes, I am looking for another R1 (or something close) right now as my second steed.

    Penski 8975 shock settings.

I have a Penske 8983, but here are my recommended settings: shock R=15-17, C=8-11, 40mm rider sag When setting sat, don't forget to loosen the two set screws and then tighten them up when you are done.

Would you ride this tire 2000 more miles?

Yup. I would run it 2,000 miles to the dump.

    Steering Stem Torque

13 lb in. isn't much more than hand tight. 13 lb ft is 156 lb in. which is way more than hand tight. Just thought I would chime in.

Where can I buy a steering bearing socket?

I am in the valley. I had a friend make a tool for me. Just come on buy and I will check/retorque your head. PM me if you like.

    Has anyone run Bridgestone T-30s

I hate when people say do a search, so here is the link to 7 pages worth of review: https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php/topic/156264-bridgestone-t30-gt-tire-review/ A quick synopsis, Fantastic handling tire, not much tread life. Those that ride hard are getting between 3,000 and 4,000...

    2007 leaking front fork

My 07 was leaking and the seal mate trick did not work. I replaced the seal (I only use factory seals as I have had a bad experience with aftermarket seals) and replaced the bushings. I did not replace the middle bushing and all is just as before. Not an easy task, but not impossible. Use an...

That same damn front end clunk question....

Two things: 1. tighten the steering head bearings (easy to do). Jack up the front end and more than gently push the handle bars to the stop and see how bad it rebounds. If it stays at the stops, too tight. If it goes all the way to the other side and bounces back, too loose. If I remember, mine...

    High Altitude Suspension Issue?

I did not change anything (air pressure or suspension adjustments). Air pressure is a usual culprit. I will check to see if the pressure went higher later.

    High Altitude Suspension Issue?

I noticed after going to over 9,000 ft while on the Sparks run, my suspension now fells very stiff and I feel every bump on the fwy. Is it from the altitude on the suspension components? Has this ever happened to anybody else? Just wondering.
