    Steering Fall Away

You don't have to remove the fairing to service the forks or the steering head bearings.  Not sure if you have other maintenance items to address, but wanted to point this out. Good source of "how-to" resources here: https://www.fjr-tips.org/maint/maint.html

    :..Aux Plug not working..:

(assuming the key is on) Was the original fuse blown, and if so, did the replacement fuse blow without putting any load in the socket?  If that is the case, then pull the A, B, C, and D dash panels and start with the wiring and connector for the socket at the glove box, concentrating on...

    transmission not down shifting

Nice catch Big-O!!  When that bushing wore out on my Gen 1 bike, the clutch was "sticky".  Definitely worth a $5 try!

How Many Miles Did You Ride In 2019?

I find this thread fascinating.  Utterly incredible, I tell ya! Locally, with the exception of my closest riding buddies, I don't know ANYONE that rides more than 3,000 miles a year.  I suppose it's never really that far to the local pub.  By comparison, my 11,xxx mileage in 2019 would seem...

    transmission not down shifting

When was the last time you flushed and bled your clutch hydraulic system?  If you have some entrapped air in the system, then your clutch is not fully engaging, and that could affect shifting.  Presumably both upshifting and down shifting, but your transmission is a sequential gearbox and as you...

How Many Miles Did You Ride In 2019?

About 11, 500 for Pants, all FJR of course.  All upright, I might add, which is definitely a good thing.  And most of those miles with at least one friend. A little light compared to other years, but I still had a lot of fun.

    Retail value

By all accounts, that is a fair settlement for the bike.  I don't think it's worth more than that anywhere in the country, at any time of the year. Good on ya!

    Almost an FJR owner...

Excellent choice, if I don't say.  The first time you throw a leg over and ride it more than 15 minutes, all will be right with the world. Now - this is not intended to be a downer, but you should consider some basic preventative maintenance while the weather is crapola anyway.  If you know how...

    The ONE Picture Ride Report

May 2017 Riding The Rails   My Dad loves trains.  And because he likes them, I like them too.  I’m the oldest of my parents’ three children.  Ever since I could relate to him, my Dad walked on water.  Seriously – that is how he always looked to me.  No matter what the situation, the...

Gen II Front Fork Oil Seal Removal

Well - at this point, you've got to get creative.  I'd start by trying to pry it out with the widest thing possible - try to grab as much of the bottom of the seal as you can.  Maybe go to the hardware store, and select a stiff putty knife (one that has NO flex), and then use a grinding wheel to...

Gen II Front Fork Oil Seal Removal

The seal is stuck - keep "slamming", it will free itself eventually.  Put a very thin film of grease on the outside of the seal going back together.  The next time will be like butter. BTW - ^^^ that article/how-to write up is very helpful, but you don't have to use that method to change the...

(usual disclaimer first) I've been in risk mgmt. for well over 20 years.  That doesn't make me an expert, but suffice it to say that I've been involved in hundreds of insurance claims (if not thousands). Your insurance's objective is not technically to pay you the least amount possible.  Their...

Select a shock for me, please

The spring is exactly as I requested it. The range of preload is 80 kg. (About 175 pounds). So I had the shock spring for no preload when I’m by myself and no bags, and all preload loaded with camping gear and top box.    Works great.

Select a shock for me, please

I considered the Penske.  Be advised that there have been a couple that have broken the lower clevis - this of course is potentially dangerous.  The broken clevis was attributed to using the wrong hardware in the lower mount (the Penske takes a special bolt, IIRC). In the end, I made my...

Select a shock for me, please

I bought the Hagen from England.  $535.00 shipped to my house.  Sprung for my weight and anticipated full load.  Hydraulic Pre-load adjuster, 2 year warranty, re-buildable. Shock performs beautifully.  A ton better than stock. You have to buy it from England as they do not sell in the US any...

    2020 FJR1300

Like the other color "fake chrome", those too will fall off in a year or so... (sigh) I wish Mama Yammie would listen to their customers.  She is not alone - they all neglect to do so....

    2020 FJR1300

My thoughts? Have some decals made, rims painted, and save about $16,000.00. Seriously, NO FJR is worth that price.

    2020 FJR1300

In my opinion, we should care because if it doesn't, the FJR as we know it will end worldwide. It took me almost 2 weeks to determine precisely who to email, but I have since sent three (3) separate emails to Yamaha requesting whether the 2019 FJR (Europe version) is Euro 5 compliant. I have...

    Relay arm bearing time.

Actually, I should apologize. Of course, you were referring to the ones that you had to cut. Not sure what I was thinking.    I don’t see how using a non-shouldered bolt would hurt.
