I've actually tried a few different adapters.IIRC I once plugged an adapter into that socket and it didn't work because the adapter plug was too short to reach the center contact. Be sure something like that isn't happening.
original fuse was not blown, so I took it out and re-seated it.(assuming the key is on)
Was the original fuse blown, and if so, did the replacement fuse blow without putting any load in the socket? If that is the case, then pull the A, B, C, and D dash panels and start with the wiring and connector for the socket at the glove box, concentrating on anything that would appear to be a shorted or grounded circuit. After that, it's time to pull out the wiring diagram and get serious....
interesting - ya I hadn't thought of that.In your troubleshooting make sure the wires are hooked up to the socket. Entirely possible the PO re-purposed them for another use...
