I believe the end cap is screwed onto the housing from the inside. Try shining a flashlight down the tube to check.

It's probably the original. My 2005 is still on the original but will be replaced this spring although it has not displayed any problems.

Canada is still overpriced! Look at cycletrader and you can find 2012 FJR's advertized as low as $13,599 in the U.S., up here MSRP is $16,999 and that's more then I paid for mine in 2005. $13,599
