FJRForum Official 2017 Iron Butt Rally Tracking/Analysis Thread

Looks like the first 2 riders made it to the ferry dock in North Sydney, Nova Scotia with 2 others hot on their heels. Now lets see if they all get on the boat. Looks like we also have someone in Saskatchewan plus 3 more passing through the Blackfeet reservation on their way to Alberta? Sure...

No surprise to see more of the beautiful gray '15s than the ugly pink '14s.* * - sorry pants but I know RFH would want me to say it. ;)

Hmm. I see 2 riders at a Yamaha/Suzuki/BMW dealer in Memphis. Going to go out on a limb and say that is probably not a good thing.

My FJR did quite well "off asphalt". I just got scared of how much it would cost to fix when it inevitably went down on some remote forest road. I would guess that reliability, comfort and range are tops on the list for an IBR bike.

In 2015 most (all?) of the bonuses were daylight only. Coincidence or are the rally masters trying to encourage more rest by the riders?

Most Japanese are required to take English starting in middle school. As one poster mentioned, unless they live near an American military base they rarely get to practice speaking it though. Hopefully his reading skills will be up to the task. Having lived in several countries I know it is far...

    Meet In The Middle

Glad to hear he's enjoying it. That bike took me to 27 states in comfort and style. FJRs aren't meant to spend their lives parked so I'm glad Josh is keeping the odometer moving!

    Meet In The Middle

I'm really bummed I couldn't join you this time. Glad you had a great trip and hope to ride with you guys again someday. P.S.- that's a might fine looking bike Josh is riding!

    Retiring (and Riding) in Mexico

I'm hoping to get down around the Guanajuato/Jalisco area to do a little sightseeing/retirement scouting this fall. Maybe I'll run into you.

    Mexico?

Best advice I can think of is to start hanging out at ADVRider, They have a large group of Mexico based riders plus many others who ride there frequently. Check out the regional forum as well as the trip planning forum. Here's a good place to start...

Wanted: Good Mechanic in St. Louis Area

To me that speaks volumes since there are several other dealers between St Charles, MO and Litchfield, IL. I also bypassed 2 closer dealers to go there.

Wanted: Good Mechanic in St. Louis Area

I've had good experiences with Niehaus Cycles in Litchfield, IL. Never needed any major work but they always seemed professional and knowledgeable when I was there.

    The B-17G Bomber

Thanks for that! My uncle flew 25 missions as a co-pilot against the 3rd Reich from RAF Molesworth. After the war he was in Tokyo as part of the occupation force when the Korean war broke out and he flew another dozen missions. He died 4 years ago at 95 but I still remember all the stories he told.

    Sena Communicator

I've used mine with the ear buds plugged in during several moderate rains with no issue.

    FJR Tankbags?

Big name for a big bag. I have that same bag with power and really liked it for travelling. It's too big for everyday commuting. You're right about the quality. It's very well made. High price but you get a lot for your money.

FOUND Switched fuse box (centech, fuzebox, EB PC-8, Etc)

I use an Eastern Beaver and really like it. They have different options, including 3 circuit, and even FJR specific kits. https://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Wiring_Kits/Fuseboxes/fuseboxes.html

Electrical Power for Heated Gear - SAE, Powerlet, Cigar Plug ?

That's another thing I like about the coax. It's small enough that I can tuck it under the edge of the saddle when not using.

    2015 FJR1300ES - $9200 Metro St. Louis, MO

Yes I am Allen. It opened up the horizon for me and let me know that I can ride much, much farther than the next county. For that I'm very grateful. The FJR is a great bike but I can't afford, or store, 2 large bikes. Believe me. I checked but the garage size and the Commander-in-Chief...

    2015 new $10250 OTD!

Holzhaur? That's where I bought mine 2 years ago. It's only about 30 minutes from me. They're a Ford dealer that sells motorcycles on the side (literally). Drive to the far end of the parking lot and go in the last door.

Electrical Power for Heated Gear - SAE, Powerlet, Cigar Plug ?

An SAE connector doesn't have excessive voltage drop but if it uses poor quality wiring inside that can. As for ergonomics, you don't specify which side of the bike the cable is on but coming from the battery I'm guessing the right side. That could be a pain if you get on/off the bike on the...
