    Spider bite on a 2012

I think my biggest take-a-way here is the dealer was competent! Identified the actual problem -- and on the first try! After an Orlando dealer lost the cam timing adjusting valves that didn't need adjusting, I was pretty wary of what the diagnosis would be. My problem is the bike is 350 miles...

    Spider bite on a 2012

Took the bike on a work road trip last week -- nothing quite like riding a couple of long days on the time card! A couple of times during the week, the motor seemed to stumble just the least little bit. So short I thought perhaps I had fumbled the throttle (I can be ham fisted at times). Also...

    Overheating after valve check...any ideas?

As others have noted, the fine wire is fragile, welded to the center core and susceptible to damage if pried upon. Further, while NGK US does allow for adjustment, they note the max range is +-.008", otherwise the contacts may get too far out of alignment.

    Valve Check Tips? <Nucking Futs!>

I've got your tip: Don't. Really. If you don't have a lot of miles, it just won't be worth the effort. The valves will almost certainly not only be in tolerance, but likely toward the loose end of tolerance -- which is where they should be.

    Texting.....

I worry that anyone finds this humorous.

    Pretty upset ...

"multiple slow tip-overs during the two days of riding" Really? This is your norm? Sorry, but that does not sound right to me. I would not recommend you take up sky diving.

    Vacation solo trip

The perfect riding group is always the Gilligan Trio -- me, myself, and I. Every member added on any given ride will add complexity and issues -- and usually some indecision. Don't get me wrong, I like sharing my favorite roads with friends sometimes, but a few days alone in the helmet is very...

    This Shows Commitment

You know, in humans Darwin is not proving correct. More and more of 'people' worthy of Darwinian thinking have already reproduced by the time their true nature is revealed, ensuring the gene pool remains, shall we say "eclectic"?

Are we witnessing the end of motorcycling?

For me, today has pounded the last nail in the coffin. Better half just rememered to hand me my new issue of Cycleworld. crap, crap, crap. Bad enough that Motorcyclist degraded itself to every other month, but now the once tried and true Cycleworld is freaking quarterly? As in four times a year...

Are we witnessing the end of motorcycling?

I see fewer and fewer people riding, both at events and even just on the weekends. Have two nephews with licenses now, but another who doesn't ride a bicycle, much less a motorcycle. Part of the change (started to say problem, but I guess it isn't necessarily a problem) is the lack of manual...

Are we witnessing the end of motorcycling?

Took the week off for BikeWeek again -- generally don't miss it. Have to say, from my perspective it was quite sad. In days gone by, the participation at the Speedway would take the entire front half of the compound, from the north fence to the south, with demo rides from all the major brands --...

    seat material selection

I got my Seat Concepts cover in the 'gripper' fabric -- felt a bit different at first, but love it now. Nothing quite like having your butt stay where you put it!

    Hourly rates at dealer

I'd like to find good technical help for less than $100 an hour, but by the time I factor payroll, building, insurance, non-mechanic help (somebody has to do paperwork), etc., it just adds up and up and up.

    16K mile service "compromise"

I recommend you do ignore the valve check. Mine, like many others, were on the edge of loose from the factory, and could have gone unchecked without issue.

    Less Is More

If I were to quote the letter from the magazine it might cross some sort of line, but I'm betting the originator could quote himself (or herself on another occasion) without issue...

Valve check... Should I leave well enough alone or dig in

As one of those who has had a dealership lose the cam timing for no reason -- they were adjusting valves that were at the loose end of tolerance for crying out loud! -- I say leave them alone.

    High-pitched electronic whine when running...

Sounds the same as my '12. Only a bit louder in the exhaust, of course.

Rebuilding kits -Clutch reservouir & slave cylinder

Seals do wear, particularly if the system isn't flushed as often as it should be (and how many do that? Not me...) I find a seal kit for the master, no sweat, but the slave does appear to be more difficult.

Stator re-wind - Ricks MotorSport Electrics

    Front fork rebuild

I have a weeper on the left. Stopped by my incredibly incompetent local dealership (just for a reference). I asked about changing fork seals - just fork seals - and was quoted $650. hoping Cycle Gear has a Sealmate in stock (wonder why dealers don't carry -- oh, wait, $650 vs. $6). So it's a...
