    Funky Shifting

I stand corrected. On page 7-6 of the owners manual Periodic Maintenance and Adjustment schedule lubrication of virtually all pivot points is recommended. The shift pedal pivot shaft is recommended to be lubed every 4K miles or 6 months. Shut my mouth! Update: I got to feeling guilty so I...

    Funky Shifting

The owners manual discusses lubricating shift pivot points if necessary on page 7.28 of the owners manual but it is not listed as a scheduled maintenance item only recommended should binding be noted before a ride. It is NOT a scheduled maintenance item which was my point. That's not to say...

    Funky Shifting

I have a FSM and a Haynes manual for my '10 FJR1300A and nowhere can I find any reference to lubricating shift linkage pivot points. Only thing discussed is shift pedal position adjusting no mention of pivot point lubrication. Where can I find a routine maintenance procedure for this? Other...

Bike Instability above 70mph on interstate

My money's on the windshield as well. When I bought my FJR the previous owner had installed a large intended for touring windshield. I was on my way home (800 miles) from Kalispell, MT after purchase and this was my first actual ride on an FJR. All was pretty good until I got into the...

    FU*K FIRE

That's true then add to that very low humidity. However, rapid response needs to happen and you don't accomplish that when you are mobilizing fire fighting resources for an event taking place in the west using personnel in the east. It can take 24 or more hours to respond in this fashion...

    FU*K FIRE

Bury high voltage long haul transmission lines?? Good luck with that impossible and not at all cost effective undertaking. Approximately 82% of wild land fires are human caused. Maybe it's time to get serious about restricting unnecessary human activity in wild land interface areas altogether...

    Reluctant fork tube

Hey, changed my fork oil and thanks to FJRay's suggestion I flushed the forks with kerosene then let drip overnight. Bike has just over 10K miles and I was surprised at the nasty goop that came out. Going to do it again at 26K miles when I check the valve clearance. Re-filled with the Yamaha...

the fjr does more than i thought

Hi Ray, I was headed for US20 and I tried to use 27th street and got totally effed up in the round abouts. Then on my way back from Burns I took a wrong turn off 27th and ended up down town. I agree if you're staying on 97 headed north it isn't too bad. To make matters worse I was riding my...

When to change your fork oil

Hi Ray, Yeah, I thought about buying the cheap stuff but I somehow got the attitude that nothing's too good for my FJR. Best damn bike there is, imo. Going to flush the forks with kerosene as well. Good suggestion you had.

When to change your fork oil

Decided to change my fork oil after reading this thread. Went down to the local dealer and about passed out when I paid $65 for two quarts of 10w Yamaha fork oil. Must be pretty good stuff. For a second I thought I had walked into the beemer dealer by mistake.

Can't be any worse than trying to ride through Bend on 97 and then fight your way up to Redmond. Grrrrrrr.....

    Regular fuel vs Premium fuel?

Here in good ol' Oregun we don't have self serve stations but one can obtain access to commercial fueling stations that are self serve that's if you have a card that works. The commercial station I use has non-ethanol premium at a really good price so most of the time my bikes get premium. In...

    Adverse weather riding

I bought my FJR in Kalispell, MT in June 2016 and was on my maiden voyage home to the central Oregon coast determined to make it in one day. All went well until I got near The Dalles on I84 which is the beginning of the Columbia River Gorge and wouldn't you know the famous gorge west wind was...

    Funky Shifting

I find that short shifting from first into second at around 2.5 to 3K revs then higher revs from 2nd on up works best. Always pull clutch lever all the way. Shifting seems to get smoother as the miles add up. To avoid the clunk when shifting from neutral to first pull in the clutch and blip...

The one BMW thing I miss

Got a good idea from FJRay the other day, good guy by the way. Guy he knows replaced the Yamaha tuning fork symbol on the gas tank with a couple of BMW roundels which I might try if I can find one the right size. Then go to a BMW group thing where I'm sure everyone will have a good laugh...

    gen2 rear shock

OK, installed a new gen3 rear shock for a 2017 bike on my '10 gen2 and went for a 150 mile ride with wife on board. The motorcycle tracked noticeably better in curves with no tendency to wonder. Wife appreciated the less choppy ride and said she could tell a definite improvement. I began to...

GP Suspension and Penske 8983 install

Just got through replacing the stock shock on my '10 with a new shock for the 2017 1300A and it looks to me that this spacer's main purpose is to relieve any pressure on the mounting bosses when you tighten the nut to 46 ft-lbs. My spacer remained in the right side boss when I removed the OEM...
