I've never heard of that being a general problem. I have the V Stream with spacers on my '03 and haven't experienced anything like that. I'd listen to Iggy. The only other thing that jumps to mind is that somehow the arms or mechanism got twisted a bit during installation. It would be simple...

As others have noted, you buy a replacement shield with the pins installed. Makes the whole thing a little on the pricey side, but it was worth it me (and I'm a cheap bastige). And to be honest, I think it's been years since you could just buy the pins in the U.S. for a do-it-yourself project...
