    Help this selfish male understand!!!!

I have no advice. I was a rider before the wife and kids. It was made clear as crystal years and years ago, this is an important part of my life. She can join in, or she can stand off, but she can *not* stand in the way.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenence

    Leaving word of your route

I leave a rough idea of my route, but my routes are typically very, very loosely defined. I have general call in times (carry a calling card for when I have no cell service). On my cross-country trip next year, I'll be subscribing to the cell-phone locator service, or using a GPS...

Side stand or center stand on ferryboat?

Last summer I had my FJR on the Lewis-Cape May ferry (Delaware -> New Jersey) and I was as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs the entire time. Turns out it was just fine on the side stand. That was my first ferry trip on a bike.

    Avon Storm AV55 Front

Jeff, Maybe you got a bad tire casting. I had *very* similar results from day one on my stock, OEM cruiser tires. When I finally had enough and changed it out, the bike changed its whole personality. In addition, I recently had a similar "loose" and sloppy feel to the front end. The lower...

    Lowering the FJR

You're very kind. It's a stupid idea to change one end by that much and not the other. You're going to run right off the road because the bike going ot turn in like a chopper. Don't do this. If you need to lower the bike *that* much, you bought the wrong bike. $.02

    SST's - rear view

+1 Plus, I like symmetry. That silly, single muffler on the C14 just looks stupid.

    GenMar Handelbar risers

Got a set on order. I got my 36mm socket at Sears Hardware for like $6.99 or so. Worth having if you ever have to remote the tree for any reason (or to install the RAM nut from MCL). I consider the steering head bearings to be a maintenance item, so having the right tool makes *all* the difference.

    Now Have Two FJRs

Dear Goodness. Is the '07 new? The way you posted it, it sounds like it could be a trade-IN on a new bike, or just a flat out trade with someone who didn't want/like the '07. Details, man! Details!! And what did you get rid of?

    Corbin Smuggler Group Buy

I came >< that close to buying one when I bought my Corbin heated seat (rider & pillion) for the '06. I was ready, and I almost did. I decided to hold off, then I heard about the leaking issue. That is a *lot* of money, and I'd want something a little closer to "perfect" for that much...

I'm currently using Hearos. They work ok.

It’s important to mentor new riders, but to what extent?

I'm right on the cusp of no longer giving a crap. I hav ea few friends who are still newer riders, and I try to pass on ~30 years of riding mistakes, lessons and actually well-taught techniques that I've picked up in various classes and teaching... but I still battle the "I don't need any...

GenIIs down in power ?? Fit and finish ??

I was looking a little more closely at Chips' '07 today. The dash panels under the speedometer cluster are a little different than the '06s. They use the push pin fasteners where the '06 uses screws (that are a BITCH to get in and out), and I think they're located slightly different than the 06s.

    Terrible Headshake and the solution

Ditto that. Looks like I'm good for about 5k a set on the FJR. I'm going to be trying something else this time. Not sure what yet, though.

    I'm in a quandry...

Uhm... how are you still alive with such long non-pivoting parts sticking out the side of your bike like that?

Thought I had the bike I could ride forever...

This (along with many of your others) is an EXCELLENT point. I'm allergic to pretty much everything with hair, skin or that grows int he ground. Putting a helmet on with sinus pressure will do everything from exacerbate a headache to bring on nose bleeds and can **** with your chi right quick...
