    Greensboro, NC area Tech Day?

Very cool. I've got plenty of space. I just finished a 40X80 pole barn with poured floors. I've been wrenching since I was old enough to do it. Should be fun. Here are a couple of pics of the new garage. I just moved all my equipment in there. No pics of that yet though. Joe

    Greensboro, NC area Tech Day?

I'm interested in hosting a Tech Day at my house in Stokesdale, NC. I'm not a stranger to auto mechanics but have done very little wrenching on my FJR. So, I don't have the expertise to host a tech day, but I definitely have the room, and a decent assortment of tools and equipment. I was...

    Any 2 stroke gurus?

Anytime I fire up an injected 2 stroke that is new to me, I add some oil to the tank as premix for insurance. Once you see that the oil in the tank is going down it is safe to stop using premix. I like the Amsoil 100:1 for this. Joe

    Sill Running Like Crap!

I bet you can reproduce it with a water hose. Your spark plug wires may be leaking. If you can wet them down and recreate the problem, you are all set. If not, wetting other small areas will help you zero in on the problem. Joe

    NJ,NY,VT,NH,ME,MA,CT, NY(LI), NJ

When traveling north out of NY, be sure to hit Rt 218 from West Point to Cornwall. Not very long, but scenic. Stop at one or two of the pull-offs. Before you get to 218, go to the observation tower at Bear Mountain.

    2008 Fueling issue

Sounds like your bike does the same thing as mine, although after putting on a PCIII my fueling problem is limited to right around 1750 RPMs. The only time it cleans up is when I unplug the TPS, but that's no cure... Click for my old thread. Joe

    Urinal etiquette

I've got a buddy of mine that always has to use the stall. He says his pecker gets stage fright. <_< My job requires nearly 100% travel. I spend a lot of time in public restrooms as a result. I can take most screwball behaviors in the rest room except for the window shoppers. I...

    2008 Fueling issue

I've got an '08 and I agree that the fueling under 2K is terrible on our bikes. Last year I fooled around with my bike an awful lot, and I discovered that the computer was adding acceleration enrichment when it wasn't supposed to (by using asynchronous injection pulses). It went away if you...

    2012 Adacks Ride 6-16-12

The bottom of Pepacton Reservoir is one of the best bike roads in NY as far as I'm concerned. Low traffic and great sweepers. Joe

    Flat dead battery

You're not going to know for sure until you give it a try. I'd recharge it and let it sit for 24 hours without being connected to anything. If it maintains 12.6 or 12.7 volts then put it back in the bike. If it's anything less than that I'd can it. While this is far from a perfect battery...

    Russel Day Long

Got my call tonight. My seat is on the way back! With the lack of snow we've had this season, we may end up getting an early start. Maybe the road salt will be gone in March... Either way, I'm looking forward to breaking it in, Joe

Cruiser or Sportbike background? Why FJR now?

In 1984 I bought a 1982 CB900F Super Sport. I rode that bike every year until last year. What a great bike. 2 summers ago a few buddies and I rode out to Americade in Lake George, NY. We did a few demo rides, and I got a chance to sit on an FJR. I think it is the first street bike I ever sat...

    Low compression. Head gasket failure?

I'm with you, except I don't think I'd pull the throttle bodies. A shop vac on them with the throttle plates open would probably work fine. It's time to have somebody that knows what they are doing diagnose that thing. If not, somebody is going to get a heck of a deal on it. 5 years ago I...

    Aggressive Driver/ Road Rage

Over the years I have done a few different things. Lose them, like you did. This is always my first line of defense. Called the Fuzz. Did this once. I approached a guy in a 1 ton van camping in the left lane. When I passed him on the right he went bananas. He pursued me like a madman. I...

Fun diversion if you still wanna get out some

I ride with a guy that grabs/drops tags from that website. He has a pretty good time with it. Glad to hear you're still out there. We've got too much road salt spread here, so my bike is resting quietly in the garage. I've been getting my 2 wheel fix on my dirt bike. It's been nice riding...

    Low compression. Head gasket failure?

Just be sure that when you did the leakdown test that the cylinder was at TDC Compression or valve overlap will make it look like leakage into another cylinder. It is pretty unlikely that you'd have 80psi in every cylinder, and have a blown head gasket as the cause. That'd mean that you had...

    Russel Day Long

I got in early on the buy, and I was up early Monday while waiting for a flight. I got my order submitted around 6am or so. I'm definitely looking forward to getting it. My wife and I did several 1000 mile weekend rides this year. My butt will appreciate a seat better suited to long distance...

Mass Proposes Changes in Motorcycle Laws

I'd hate to come up on a group of pirates and not be able to pass them legally.

    Brake Pad Bolts

I respectfully disagree. Recommended torque values are exactly that. They ensure that the bolts are tight enough to stay in place, but not tightened enough to distort the component or fastener. If you use any kind of thread lubricant, including Never Seize, it is impossible to torque the...

    Engine Miss /Skip Help Please!

If it does it at idle, the first order of business would be to identify which cylinder is missing. You can do this a few different ways. 1) If you have one of those non contact temperature guns, shoot each exhaust header pipe individually to find the cool one. That's the cylinder with the...
