    Service recommendations for new to me FJR

    T-turtle, You can also have Zerk fittings installed in the Relay Arm, to keep it simple in the future. Snowflake does good work, and only replaces what is bad. Find and send him an old one, and you can simply swap the finished Relay Arm in. Your bike may or may not need maintenance there...

    Service recommendations for new to me FJR

    Rowsdower, As mentioned above, you can call the Yamaha mothership directly at 1-800-962-7926. Website: https://www.yamaha-dealers.com/public/web/techpubs/nhtsaPublications.html Give them your VIN, and they will check the status of any and all recalls on your bike. Factory recalls are free...

    Service recommendations for new to me FJR

    Rowsdower, At 16k miles, there is not much needed by the FJR. I would suggest replacing (completely) all of the hydraulic fluids. The AE clutch is tricky to bleed, so follow the correct procedure, if you do that. The driveshaft splines may or may not be greased, but it's an easy job and a...

    Shifting Hard Shifting 2nd --> 1st

    On second thought, the higher gears may shift better (due to better clutch action) because you just pulled the clutch recently (for the lower gears). Try pulling the clutch lever fully once or twice before you actually shift. Let the clutch lever go each time, so it snaps open as fast as...

    Shifting Hard Shifting 2nd --> 1st

    The lever adjustments should let you dis-engage the clutch where you like it. Try the extremes of the lever setting, and see if either way is better. The bushing may be worn out, also. My only guess on the low gears issue would be that you take more time and care with the high gears, and maybe...

    Shifting Hard Shifting 2nd --> 1st

    Definitely, bleed the clutch, completely. You want all of the old fluid out of there, and only clean fluid coming from the bleeder. Speedbleeders.com can make it an easy, one-guy job, and they will know what you need. Your hand levers should have adjustments on them. Are they set correctly...

    Something Cool -- Interested?

    Mike, Prolly the smoothest bike I ever had, short of the FJR. Lotsa go-power for the size, as I remember. Only sold it when my FJ1100 showed up, Now, I'd want three disk brakes, alloy wheels, and an O-ring or X-ring chain there, but it was a good ride for its' day.

    Clutch Problem

    RossKean, I agree. That aside, I would suggest putting a tiny washer into the recess inside the brass clutch lever bushing, because a washer will last a while, and it is an easy roadside fix. Same basic idea, sure, but an easier, better way.

    Clutch Problem

    Rex, There is a brass bushing in the clutch lever (NOT the lever pivot) that pushes the clutch rod into the master cylinder. That bushing can get worn. See pix. Available separately for about US$ 5~$ 10. Index 4 on the fiche: bushing, clutch lever Bleeding the clutch hydraulics (replacing...

    Old Fjr rider coming back into fold, questions

    Smokerider, For the best options of handlebar comfort (and to kill any hand-numbing buzz from the engine), you might consider changing the handlebars to conventional 7/8" (22mm) handlebars. ABM has a billet fitting which is reasonable in price and looks. Snowflake on another FJR forum puts...

    Pivot Maintenance - FJR Stand?

    Snowflake on another FJR forum installs Zerk grease fittings, and rebuilds the Relay Arm as needed. Send him yours, or find a used one to get reworked by him. He does great work; I got one done for my FJR. Prices are good, and you only pay for the work, plus what is needed on the rebuild...

    Seeking advice on first FJR

    Kingston, Below is a link that compares each year of the FJR to the others. In general, I think you would be happy with a five-speed, with cruise control. A change of windshields and a custom seat is kinda basic, around here. I would avoid the ES versions, due to the high cost of suspension...

    Dealers no longer supporting?

    Bappo, Hang tough. Seafoam is magic stuff, but it is not instant magic. Run the full can (mixed per label specs) through the tank, before you decide something needs fixing. It may take a few days, and sometimes a second can, but it might be all you need. How do the spark plugs look? How...

    New Bike Choice

    Saread, Map out all of the BMW dealers near you, and in the states around you. Do the same for the Yamaha dealers. Call your local BMW dealers, tell them you have some imaginary problem (for your imaginary bike), and see when they can get around to fixing your bike. Do the same for the...

    New to this group, and the fjr

    Tomslyk2002, Tire inflation counts on the FJR. Most riders start with 40F/42R, in PSI, and tinker from there. A few PSI either way can make a real difference. Beyond that, if you do not know bike suspension science, drop in at a bike speed shop (maybe near a track, not by the dealer...

    New home away from home

    RDrasher, I lived in a wandering truck camper for a dozen years. Can't beat the price of civilized "camping." Now I have a house, but I still miss the truck. ;) That said, it looks like a LOT of living space was surrendered to carry the bike. I could easily see a sideways mount, like an...

    Who's installed the FuzeBlocks FZ-1 on their bike?

    LL FJRpilot, Sorry, wrong link. Fixed it above, or try this one: https://www.fjrforum.com/threads/switched-power-for-lighting-relay.177524/post-1429550

    Who's installed the FuzeBlocks FZ-1 on their bike?

    LL FJRpilot, I'd recommend a Fuse Tap, on any heavy-rated switched fuse. https://www.fjrforum.com/threads/switched-power-for-lighting-relay.177524/post-1429550

    Brake Job - Need confirmation of these parts

    Rider_FJR, Speedbleeders.com will make the brake bleeding job into an easy one-guy operation. They will know what the FJR needs for the brakes and the clutch cylinder. They have a nifty fluid-catch bag that you will be happy to have, also. You can get bleeder-equipped banjo bolts for the...

    Who makes cleanest motobike engines

    Where "clean" is the desired standard, I would have said "brushless electric." Two sealed bearings, one moving part. Long term: no emissions, no oil disposal. Too simple!
