    Abrupt Slow Speed Turn-In

After taking the Alameda Co. Sheriff's Office civilian training course last year, which is a full day of mostly slow-speed handling, I now practice tight, slow-speed u-turns every time I get on the bike.

Hit the kill switch when stuck in traffic

"Sit idling in traffic." I wonder what that's like...?

Advice for Route - Vegas to San Francisco

It's Fleet Week in SF this weekend. Riding a motorcycle is a good way to get around the City on such a weekend since it will be gridlock along the water. I was thinking I might shoot into town for the Blue Angels performance at 3PM Saturday or Sunday....

F**k, Ig, if I knew we could correct grammar, I'd a been all over that sh*t years ago!

No. I never use it. I think it's a silly word.

To overcome my attention issue, I actually retrofit onto the center of the handlebars two very large, bright amber indicators.

    I can buy a new 2012 FJR for $11,800, should I?

The answer is no. I have an '05 that is all tricked out to fit me and my needs well. It is reliable (when not stalling on the side of the freeway, that is ), and inexpensive to operate. It starts when I want it to and accelerates (a lot!) when I want it to. It is a totally known quantify...

Check Out my new Brain Bucket

I avoid the Snell certification after reading "Blowing the Lid Off." My Suomy is British-certified. (Snell did rebut, but I haven't read it. I like my Suomy.)

    SOLD! 2004 Cerelean. Silver

It'd be cool if we could archive what bikes sell for so we'd have a sense of their value is (what a willing buyer and seller agree to do the deal at). I need to start thinking about what my '05 would be worth, and then factor in all the accessories and dings. 52K miles.

    Harley guy here..

This thread seems to be about turn signals. My first bike, a Sportster bought in 2003, had cancelling turn signals. It used to drive me crazy when I was commuting in thick, brisk-moving traffic trying to cross several lanes. I needed the ^#&$* things to keep going as I kept moving across...

Idaho Moto Cop Blitzes Another Biker

Referring back to the original post, this happened to me a few years ago crossing the Bay Bridge during my morning commute: Suddenly a CHP (California Highway Patrol) bike passed me at warp speed within a few feet . I don't know if it was "dangerous" or even "stupid," but I do know that it...

Great Places to Lay Up in the Adirondacks?

What luck that you hit the peak! It's really paradise up there--just beautiful! When I go up there I--what else--draw and paint. I did this watercolor just last June. Here's looking out across the lake from the old hotel deck.

Great Places to Lay Up in the Adirondacks?

Every summer we spend a week on Fourth Lake between Old Forge and Inlet. My brother-in-law, who runs the camp where the family stays during the summer, is just closing up the place for the season, and posted several photos today on Facebook looking down Fourth Lake from the camp west toward Old...

Going 70 in the fast lane, bike dies, I don't

I just came across this thread. Man, it's deja vu all over again.... Even after a couple months I still have feelings of trepidation when I blast out into deep end of freeway traffic and just hope to god the bike doesn't die in the middle of . Scary **** you experienced--especially at that...

I guess now you mention it I was surprised about that never pass the leader line. And maybe you're right about guidelines vs. rules. I don't recall if you stated why you have the rules--i.e., to ensure safety, fun, etc. One of the things that we started doing in NorCal was have "shared...

Not saying there was anything about your rules I didn't like. I think it's good to be clear about expectations. I was just saying that reading the rules reminded me that there are a lot of folks with different ideas about riding and riding in groups, and it can make for a lot of wild cards.

I LOVE the banner on your website with all the bikes! Your "rules" page reminds me why I do not like to go on group rides: You just never know how skilled and rational your riding partners are, so I just say "no thanks" to open-to-everyone group rides and just go out with a few known friends...
